Honeywell Expands Applications For The Paper Industry; New Tuning Package Improves Operational Performance and Product Quality

MONTREAL, Feb. 8 - Honeywell (NYSE:HON) today introduced the latest version of IntelliMap, an alignment and tuning package for the paper industry. IntelliMap 5 now has fully automated tuning functionality for the Honeywell Performance CDMultivariable controller. This development will enable Honeywell customers to improve control performance and paper quality.

"Our paper industry customers desire smoother and consistent operations that yield impeccable product quality," said Kathy Hutson, Pulp, Paper and Printing marketing director for Honeywell Process Solutions. "We're pleased to deliver technology solutions that help them achieve their operational objectives and give them peace of mind at the same time."

IntelliMap 5 integrates with the Performance CDMultivariable controller to provide profile analysis and documentation capabilities to help evaluate plant performance. It enables on-site personnel to maintain and optimize the highly sophisticated Performance CD controls for maximum results. It uses advanced computational techniques to extract the maximum amount of information from the process, performing complex calculations of up to 900 parameters. Sliders set tuning parameters, so complex multivariable tuning can be performed automatically. This improves paper quality and reduces production costs.

Honeywell Performance CDMultivariable control is a true array-based model predictive controller that has had initial success on a complex supercalendar application at St. Mary's Paper Ltd., located in Sault St. Marie, Ontario, Canada. St. Mary's and Honeywell received START magazine's Technology Innovation Award in 2004 for this project. This controller has demonstrated its ability to solve the complex interactions and couplings that occur with multiple headboxes in brown grade applications, with significant reductions in profile variations and increases in machine productivity. Controllers also have been ordered for newsprint and fine paper applications.

The latest version of Performance CDMultivariable control with the new release of IntelliMap will be displayed at booth 1144 at Exfor 2005, which takes place Feb. 8-10 in Montreal.
