Truline Tool America's, a Division of Johnson Carbide Products, Inc., Issues License to European-Based H.A.M. Precision to Sell and Service the Truline Tool® Family of Composite Boring Tools in Thirteen Countries

The successful development and application in North America of the new patented TruLine Tool® family of composite fine boring tools has prompted TruLine Tool® to undertake a broad European licensing agreement with well-known German-based carbide and tooling manufacturer, H.A.M. Precision. The TruLine Tool® technology will be sold and serviced by H.A.M. Precision in thirteen European countries including; Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Slovakia Republic, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland.

In making the announcement, Richard Theriault, Johnson Carbide Products vice president of technology and development says, "We are very encouraged about the significance and the proven performance of the TruLine Tool® family of composite boring tools. These ultra-lightweight, chatter-free boring tools are already making an impact in the automotive and off-highway industries where machining issues related to the critical precision boring of cylinder head camshaft bores and the crank and wrist pin bores on connecting rods is now being solved. By working out a licensing agreement with a world-class carbide and tooling company like H.A.M. Precision, we are comfortable that the technology will be brought to the European metalworking market with a level of knowledge and application expertise that is required by this new technology."

Theriault adds, "To date ...we have major tooling installations at the major North American OEM automotive manufacturers both domestic and Asian, as well as some users
in Korea.

The TruLine Tool® composite technology involves the use of composite materials and polycrystalline diamond (PCD) guide pads to construct boring and reaming tools that are 1/8th the weight of comparable carbide body tools with eight times the stiffness of carbide, significantly reducing cutting vibration and cutting tool chatter, Fig. 1.

Since 1953, Johnson Carbide Products, Inc., has been designing and developing superior quality, high-precision solid micro-grain carbide cutting tool products including; drills, end mills, reamers, saws, slitting saws, routers countersinks and burrs.

H.A.M. Precision was established in 1969 and is one of Europe's leading designers and builders of solid carbide standard, special and polycrystalline diamond tools, as well as tooling with indexable inserts and brazed carbide tools. H.A.M. employs 650 people worldwide.
