Triple Switching Regulator saves space.

Press Release Summary:

Triple-output, monolithic switching regulator, LT1941, is housed in TSSOP-28E package with exposed copper bottom. Two regulators are step-down converters with 3 and 2 A switches, while third regulator can be configured as boost, inverter, or SEPIC converter and has 1.5 A switch. All 3 converters are synchronized to 1.1 MHz oscillator. Product offers antiphase switching to reduce ripple and accepts input voltage from 3.5-25 V.

Triple Switching Regulator Delivers Big Power from Tiny Footprint

MILPITAS, CA - June 17, 2004 - Linear Technology Corporation announces the LT1941, a triple output monolithic switching regulator offered in a 28-lead TSSOP package with an exposed copper bottom. Two of the regulators are step-down converters with 3A and 2A switches. The third regulator can be configured as a boost, inverter or SEPIC converter and has a 1.5A switch. All three converters are synchronized to a 1.1MHz oscillator. The two step-down converters run on opposite phases, reducing input ripple current. It is ideal for xDSL, hard disk drives and general-purpose applications that require dual high current step-down converters for microprocessor cores and I/Os, plus a high power boost/inverter for biasing requirements.

With an input voltage range of 3.5V to 25V, the LT1941 regulates a broad array of power sources from 4-cell batteries and 5V logic rails to unregulated wall transformers, lead acid batteries and distributed power supplies. Each regulator generates a power good signal when its output is in regulation, easing power supply sequencing and interfacing with microcontrollers or DSPs. The high switching frequency provides several advantages by permitting the use of small inductors and ceramic capacitors, ensuring a very compact triple output solution. The constant switching frequency, combined with low impedance ceramic capacitors, results in low and predictable input ripple.

The LT1941 is available from stock in a TSSOP-28E package. Pricing starts at $5.25 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
