Trend Micro Enables Content Security Offerings For Cisco ASA 5500 Series Network Edge Solutions

New Content Security Module Represents Latest Effort From the Two Partners to Deliver on Their Shared Vision of Integrating Security Software and Intelligence Into the Network Infrastructure

CUPERTINO, Calif., Feb. 13 -- Trend Micro, Inc. (NASDAQ:TMIC), a leader in antivirus and content security, today announced that it is enabling new content security offerings for the Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) 5500 Series family of security appliances that offer organizations customized and comprehensive protection against a variety of security threats.

The Cisco ASA 5500 Series Content Security and Control Security Services Module (CSC-SSM) marks the latest offering developed by the two companies. This new services card provides universal threat prevention and content control at the network edge, delivering antivirus, anti-spyware, anti-spam, anti-phishing, URL blocking and filtering, and content filtering services from Trend Micro. These content security offerings also complement the Cisco ASA 5500 Series' other unified threat services including advanced Firewall, Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), and Virtual Private Network (VPN).

Supported by Trend Micro TrendLabs(SM), the CSC-SSM receives real-time, anti-threat intelligence to help ensure customers remain protected from malicious content. The module provides Cisco ASA customers with the flexibility to defend against unpredictable and complex threats in a single managed appliance.

Announced today at RSA, the CSC-SSM follows the two companies' collaborative effort in delivering the Cisco Incident Control System (ICS) in September 2005. The CSC-SSM also exemplifies the two companies' strategic objective to integrate multi-layered, multi-threat security into the network infrastructure.

"Providing rich and flexible content security offerings for the Cisco ASA 5500 Series is one of the major ways we are reaffirming our position as key global leaders in gateway security," said Eva Chen, CEO of Trend Micro. "We are extremely pleased with the momentum we are building with Cisco Systems. Our shared commitment to provide the most comprehensive and flexible network security solutions enables us to help protect customers against threats that are increasingly unpredictable and complex."

With the emergence of new digital threats that can strike in a blended fashion at any time, Trend Micro is helping Cisco enhance its ASA product family to provide much more comprehensive security that meets today's security challenges. With Trend Micro providing content security support, the Cisco ASA 5500 series can now monitor inbound and outbound HTTP, SMTP, POP3, and FTP traffic at the network gateway. The Cisco ASA 5500 Series sends data through the CSC-SSM, and any suspect or unauthorized content is subsequently removed preventing such threats from entering the network.

In addition to providing content security for the Cisco ASA, Trend Micro also plays a role in enhancing centralized management of multiple CSC-SSMs through Trend Micro Control Manager, the company's central management console.

"Cisco and Trend Micro are committed to provide customers with market-leading solutions in network and content security," said Richard Palmer, senior vice president and general manager, Cisco Security Technology Group. "Trend Micro's award-winning gateway protection allows us to deliver the value of integrated, multi-function security at the network edge. This new addition also underscores Cisco's Self-Defending Network security strategy which helps organizations around the world identify, prevent, and adapt to the changing Internet threat environment and help protect critical investments."
