Trapeze Networks Continues Wi-Fi® Leadership in Retail Industry with PCI Compliance

Leading Retailer Kaiser's Tengelmann Deploys Trapeze Smart Mobile(TM) to More Than 700 Stores

PLEASANTON, Calif., July 2 / - Trapeze Networks, the award-winning provider of Smart Mobile(TM) wireless solutions, today announced its products are fully compliant with the latest version of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS, version 1.1), issued by the PCI Standards Security Council. Founded by five leading payment card brands - American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB, MasterCard Worldwide, and Visa International - the Council is an independent body formed to develop and disseminate standards for payment account security. The PCI DSS requirements apply to any merchant or company involved with storing, processing, or transmitting customer payment data such as credit card information.

Customers such as Kaiser's Tengelmann, one of Europe's largest food retailers, rely on Trapeze wireless networks to support their extended retail networks. Kaiser's Tengelmann is rolling out Trapeze Smart Mobile technology to more than 700 retail stores, providing highly reliable, secure wireless local area network access for cash systems, reverse vending systems for recycling, kiosks, and advertising displays. The Trapeze network supports handheld terminals used by store managers and warehouse staff, enabling secure connectivity and seamless roaming in each store.

Each of the 700 stores is equipped with several Mobility Point® access points and one MXR-2® switch - a highly compact controller designed specifically for remote sites and branch offices. An MX-400® controller, located at a centralized data center, provides redundancy and resiliency for the remote MXR-2 switches. In-store personnel needed only to install their local MXR-2 switch, power it up, and plug it into the local network. The MXR-2 switches were then configured remotely from a single central site using RingMaster(TM) network management software, in sharp contrast to having to configure each store's network individually by in-store IT personnel. Smart Mobile uniquely enabled Kaiser's Tengelmann to centrally manage hundreds of remote Wi-Fi networks, with centralized policies for drop ship deployment, automated RF planning, and network-wide reporting, providing significant operational benefits and efficiencies.

PCI DSS is a multifaceted security standard that includes requirements for security management, policies, procedures, network architecture, software design and other critical protective measures. The standard includes a number of requirements specifically regarding wireless network security, including implementation of Wi-Fi Protected Access(TM) (WPA or WPA2). Trapeze Smart Mobile wireless technology fully meets this and all other wireless requirements specified in PCI DSS version 1.1.

"As an active and leading contributor to key initiatives and standards in the wireless industry, Trapeze Networks has been committed from day one to delivering robust security capabilities for our customers," said Trapeze Networks president and chief executive officer, Jim Vogt. "Our compliance with PCI DSS version 1.1 further demonstrates our ongoing commitment to the retail industry and our support for this important security initiative."
