Rhozet Announces Version 2.0 of Carbon Coder Universal Transcoding Software

New Release Adds Expanded Format Support and Accelerated Transcoding

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Sept. 7 / -- IBC - Stand 7.948 -- Rhozet Corporation today announced Carbon Coder version 2.0, the latest version of the company's enterprise-level transcoding solution for broadcast and web professionals. Carbon Coder 2.0 provides a host of enhancements such as accelerated transcoding and support for additional video formats including H.264, MXF OPAtom, JPEG 2000, DPX, and AAC.

"Rhozet is continually expanding the range of supported formats," said David Trescot, CEO of Rhozet. "Our customers depend on us to provide them with high-speed, cost-effective transcoding across the broadest range of compression standards."

Carbon Coder 2.0 now supports the following compression formats tailored to a wide range of production needs:

o H.264 support lets Rhozet customers use this emerging compression standard that delivers stunning quality at remarkably low data rates, and supports uses from mobile networks to HD;
o MXF OPAtom support lets Rhozet customers use footage directly from the Panasonic P2 camera, as well as directly transcode footage from Avid editing systems;
o JPEG 2000 provides good compression with very high quality, making it a powerful acquisition and archival format. Rhozet users can now import this format, providing support for new devices like the Grass Valley Infinity Digital Media Camcorder;
o DPX support in Carbon Coder 2.0 allows users to import files coming from professional film scanners, enabling transfer into editing and distribution formats;
o AAC is a successor to MP3 that is used in video and audio applications. Carbon Coder 2.0 supports import and export of AAC format.

In addition to supporting these new formats, Carbon Coder 2.0 dramatically accelerates the transcoding process. Many broadcast formats (including Omneon, Grass Valley, and Leitch) now transcode up to 400% faster using multiple processing cores within a single computer.

New features in Carbon Coder 2.0 also include Carbon Drop, which streams data from Carbon Coder to Carbon Server for "farm" encoding; Poster Frame extraction at markers or time increments; YUV file import and export; Improved VOB subtitling and chapter point handling; Improved Line 21 and VBI handling; Increased audio channel mapping flexibility; and Improved Watch Folder management.

Carbon Coder 2.0 is available now in beta for evaluation, and will be shipping in early October.
