Corning Cable Systems Introduces OptiVisor(TM) 400 OTDR

HICKORY, N.C. -- Corning Cable Systems, part of Corning Incorporated's telecommunications segment, introduces the OptiVisor(TM) 400 Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR). The new product provides full OTDR testing in a rugged, portable and economical unit.

The OptiVisor 400 OTDR provides testing flexibility with field-interchangeable multimode, single-mode and combination modules, which can be easily switched out in the field without the use of tools. The unit can provide full test results in as little as 45 seconds, four times faster than the industry standard.

The OTDR features a 7.7-inch color LCD touch screen which is large enough to view both the trace and the event table. The standard unit provides internal memory for storage of up to 700 traces, eliminating the need for a hard drive. If extra storage is needed, the mainframe contains a floppy drive and PCMCIA port.

The OptiVisor 400 OTDR modules provide a standard continuous wave source, while the mainframe offers an optional power meter. These features can reduce the overall amount of test equipment required for system qualification by integrating power-through testing directly onto the OTDR platform. Additionally, an option visual fault locator (VFL), useful for fiber identification and troubleshooting, is available on all modules.

With three testing modes, the OptiVisor 400 OTDR offers something for every installer. Auto Mode allows the user to select the parameters automatically, making it ideal for basic OTDR applications or the occasional user. Advanced Mode offers more setup and measurement capabilities for the more experienced OTDR user. Template Trace Mode allows the user to create a template for comparison with other traces, ideal for quick testing of multiple fibers.

The OptiVisor(TM) 400 OTDR is part of Corning Cable Systems' complete line of test equipment products, including optical sources and meters, handheld optical testers and
a variety of testing accessories. Corning Cable Systems also offers the Model 500 Optical Multitester, the ultimate test and measurement solution.
