Thomson's SoftSwitch Tops 4 Million VoIP Lines

Thomson leads worldwide residential Voice over Broadband market with over 1 million new lines of its Cirpack telephony switch deployed in first half of 2006

Paris- September 27, 2006 - Thomson (Euronext 18453; NYSE; TMS) today announced that over 4 million of its Cirpack Class-5 subscriber lines are currently used in commercial service by telecom operators around the world with over 1 million new licences installed in the first half of 2006 alone. Thomson also deployed 2 million ports of its Cirpack trunking gateways to connect operators' IP networks to the PSTN.

Jean-Pierre Dumolard, General Manager of Thomson's Network Intelligence Solutions commented "We are continuing to deploy our Cirpack softswitch platform into new markets sectors and geographies. The first half of 2006 saw a number of firsts for us. We were the first to bring VoIP to Algeria, some countries in Central America and Ukraine and we led the way in deployment of Fixed-Mobile Convergence projects to be announced later this year. I was also pleased to see that market analysts iLocus credited us with 23% market share in Q2. The fact that our Cirpack MultiNode-B supports both with toll-grade quality and superior scalability might explain its tremendous success with operators and Internet service providers of all sizes."

The Thomson's Cirpack voice switching platform is being used by some 80 telecom operators and ISP in 30 countries, including several of the largest European VoIP service providers such as Free.fr and T-Online FRANCE as well as ISP subsidiaries of Telenor and Telekom Austria amongst others.
