Wyse Debuts New High-Speed Wireless Thin Clients

Built-in Wi-Fi Capability Offers More Flexibility and Security for Growing Mobile Workforce

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 4 -- Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing, today announced the availability of the industry's first family of high-speed Wi-Fi enabled thin clients. This announcement is part of a wide range of wireless products that set the standard for thin computing, bringing much needed flexibility to today's businesses.

The new family of wireless thin clients simplifies installation -- all that is needed is a power source to turn them on. The units automatically and securely connect to any supported wireless network, without requiring driver installation or assembly. Additionally the built-in Wi-Fi technology prevents loss of equipment since there are no removable parts.

"We're excited that Wyse is offering the industry's first family of wireless thin clients," said Mark Hopkins, chief information officer, Academic and Community Hospital, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. "With an increasing mobile workforce, these devices let us put secure data anywhere, letting our employees access critical data anywhere on our campus, increasing efficiency and productivity."

The line is fully compatible with Microsoft Terminal Services, Citrix Presentation Server, VMware VDI and Wyse Device Manager. The new family includes models based on several of the leading embedded operating systems, including Microsoft Windows CE 5, Windows XP embedded and Linux, offering customers a broad choice of deployment options.

"The factory installed wireless capability, with the software and hardware fully integrated, enables a variety of new applications for quick, secure deployment in hotel lobbies, airport kiosks, hospitals and school rooms," said Tarkan Maner, president of worldwide field operations, Wyse Technology. "The simple, secure set-up of a horizontal or vertical wall-mounted Wyse wireless product enables our customers to operate in places that haven't been able to be wired with traditional Ethernet."

The Wi-Fi enabled product line provides assurance of interoperability and authentication compatibility with support for WPA and WPA2 for use with 802.1x authentication. These protocols support WEP, EAP, RC4 and TKIP to address enterprise WLAN security concerns. Together with the Wyse centralized thin-computing infrastructure, the V-Class with Wi-Fi meets corporate IT requirements of information access, device reliability, scalability and manageability.

The Wireless Thin Client family will be showcased at Wyse's Exhibition Booth #103 at the Citrix iForum Global 2006 event in Orlando, Florida. The new family is available immediately for purchase.
