New IGEL Premium Series
FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, November 9 -- IGEL is setting new standards with the new Clever Client models of the Premium series in the categories performance, flexibility and multimedia.
The new Premium series from IGEL Technology, the leading German manufacturer of Clever Clients, is available in a new attractive design and performing in the high-end range of Thin Clients. The new top models, IGEL-564 Premium, IGEL-5128 Premium, and the SAP GUI-equipped IGEL-5128 Enterprise combine performance, functional capability and security at a high level for Thin Clients. As a result of a successful mix of integrated software components, security features and additional hardware interfaces these Clever Clients have an exceptionally broad application spectrum. At the same time, the new models were optimized with regard to high-capacity calculation and graphics applications. With the new IGEL-564 X-Term there is also a plain terminal in the Premium series.
Enormous flexibility in operating and application spectrum
The new Premium models are based on the IGEL Embedded Flash Linux operating system, including standard communication protocols, such as an RDP 5.1 Linux client to be used in pure Microsoft Terminal Server environments, X11/XDMCP for UNIX/Linux environments, and ICA 8.2 with enhanced Citrix program neighborhood functions for Citrix presentation server environments. Access to Legacy host applications is provided by the effective PowerTerm emulation suite with integrated Kerberos authentication protocol. This feature not only represents a comfortable single sign-on method to access host applications, it also ensures secure data exchange with the Legacy world.
In addition to a number of previously integrated software functions that provide maximum flexibility, the basic model, IGEL-564 Premium, is equipped with Mozilla browser and plug-ins for Flash Player and Adobe Acrobat Reader.
IGEL-5128 Enterprise also comprises additional Java support and a SAP GUI allowing direct access to the SAP server.
The highest capacity model, IGEL-5128 Premium, optimally uses the existing performance resources of the new hardware base and, in addition to a complete Java runtime environment it includes plug-ins for Realplayer and Mplayer to provide excellent multi-media capabilities.
An exceptional role within the Premium Series plays the IGEL-564 X-Term. The X-Term has been designed for use as a classical X terminal on the basis of the new Premium hardware. It supports the X11/XDMCP protocol exclusively and is, therefore, predestined for use in pure Unix/Linux server environments.
Top performance with superior hardware
With a 1 GHz VIA C3[TM] LP CPU and an optimized and generously designed main memory for each Clever Client model, the new Premium series achieves a considerably improved overall operating performance. In addition to the standard analog VGA connection, the IGEL Premium models provide a DVI output for digital control of modern TFT monitors, clearly setting them apart in the market. Furthermore, the range of device interfaces, which is impressive for a Thin Client, is highly flexible and provides numerous customer-specific upgrade options, especially including a free PCI slot, PCMCIA slot, and four USB 2.0 ports, two of which are accessible at the front. Serial and parallel connection, two PS/2 ports, and inputs and outputs for audio signals are standard features.
All models of the Premium series are equipped with PC/SC-compliant Smart Card reader, allowing, for example, quick and cost-effective PKI or other certificate-based authentication solutions to ensure secure access to server-based applications and sensitive data inventories.
Saving costs with central management capability
To permanently relieve the IT budget the scope of delivery includes the IGEL Remote Manager software. All clever clients can be configured centrally at the server, which simplifies the management of large networks and significantly reduces administrative expenses. This is made possible with specifically developed functions, such as online configuration based on a central SQL database or setting up and transferring group profiles via a user-friendly management console.

The Premium models of the IGEL Embedded Flash Linux-based Clever Client series are available now in black, PC-gray or silver/blue metallic bicolor. The list price for IGEL-564 Premium and the IGEL-564 X-Term is US$ 709.00 or Euro 599.00 IGEL-5128 models are available at US$ 789.00 or Euro 669.00 each.
