Thermo Fisher Scientific Sets up Direct Sale of Cahn Product Portfolio in Several European Countries

Now sold under the Thermo Scientific brand, products will be manufactured in Karlsruhe, Germany

Karlsruhe, Germany (March 19, 2008) - Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announced that it will directly sell its well-known microbalances, digital recording balances, thermogravimetric analyzers, and dynamic contact angle analyzers through its subsidiaries in Austria, BENELUX, France, Germany, and UK effective March 1, 2008. Formerly sold under the Cahn brand, these instruments will be sold now under the Thermo Scientific brand and manufactured in Karlsruhe, Germany. Thermo Scientific represents the company's premier analytical instrumentation.

While the Thermo Scientific microbalances are designed for fast and high-precision weight measurement down to 0.1 ug, Thermo Scientific digital recording balances (DRB) go steps further to offer long-term, stable, sample weight monitoring under a user-defined environment. For the past 50 years, these instruments have been the choice for scientists performing customized researches. Built on top of the DRB technique, Thermo Scientific thermogravimetric analyzers allow scientists to study samples' weight change under extreme conditions--pressure to 100 bar, vacuum to 10-5 torr, temperature to 1700 °C, and desirable reaction gas environment.

"Dealing with extreme cases is our specialty," says Dr. Dun Chen, global product line manager with Thermo Fisher Scientific. "We offer the largest sample size and volume to accommodate the widest range of sample geometries for comprehensive thermal analysis."

With its patented design and coupling, Thermo Scientific thermogravimetric units can be coupled to an evolved gas analyzer to pass over the most concentrated sample effluents for identification, helping scientists to understand reaction mechanism and to optimize products.

Thermo Fisher Scientific is one of the pioneers in the field of dynamic contact analysis, and its Thermo Scientific instruments allow scientists to study the wetting properties between a solid and a liquid, which are critical in obtaining optimum products for inks and coatings, fibers and textiles, plastics, contact lenses and drugs. The high precision balance in dynamic contact analysis makes it easy to tell minute differences among the samples.
