Sony Introduces Line of TRX Series Ribbons
Versatile Thermal Transfer Ribbons for Extreme, Demanding Environments
MOUNT PLEASANT, PA. (February 27, 2003) - Sony Chemicals Corporation, the world leader in thermal transfer ribbon technology, recently introduced a new versatile line of wax/resin and resin specialty thermal transfer ribbons to offer unsurpassed print quality and durability in extreme, demanding environments.
Sony's new line of TRX "Extreme" ribbons provides versatile thermal transfer printing solutions for many industries, including automotive, apparel and chemical. The TRX Series offers superior solvent resistance to many corrosive substances, including alcohol, petrol, kerosene, brake fluid, engine oil, car wax and halide solvents. Other features of the TRX Series include a special release primer, printability on a wide range of substrates, and heat resistance greater than 700 degrees F.

The TRX Series of ribbons includes the following:
o TRX-55: This premium wax resin formulation is designed to print on a wide variety of receiving material, including coated and uncoated paper labels, varnished label stock and films. With reliable, sharp-edge print quality capabilities at a wide variety of printing speeds, the TRX-55 thermal transfer ribbon offers excellent barcode scanning. This ribbon is also an extremely versatile, all-purpose wax/resin that will out-perform most ribbons in extreme environments. Powerful resistance against smearing and chemicals makes TRX-55 a perfect choice for your demanding environments.
o TRX-75: Sony's TRX-75 is an excellent all around resin-based product, providing resistance to a number of harsh environments. This ribbon demonstrates excellent smear resistance at high temperatures as well as superior chemical resistance. The TRX-75 will also withstand extreme applications in the electronic, automotive and medical industries. It offers the ability to print at higher speeds and higher resolution than most thermal transfer ribbons, while consistently providing high print quality.
o TRX-85: This specialty resin ribbon formulation is excellent for battery label applications - its superb heat and chemical resistance makes this ribbon perfect for automotive, under hood applications. The TRX-85 provides exceptional oil and water resistance and preservability in cold storage. It will also provide high image quality on synthetics such as BOPP, overlaminated materials and general wrapping polypropylene.
o TRX-95: Sony's TRX-95 resin formulation is designed specifically for apparel care tag applications. TRX-95 provides excellent printability on materials such as nylon, polyester, acetate and satin. This ribbon will withstand ironing, washing, steam and dry cleaning while maintaining superb smudge resistance even at temperatures as high as 700 degrees F.
o TRX-1: Sony's TRX-1 UV-curable resin ribbon creates the most
durable thermal transfer images available that are specially designed to perform within a variety of demanding environments, and offers extreme chemical, abrasion, and high temperature resistance. This ribbon uses UV-light curable technology to take thermal printing ink performance to the next level.
