Seiko Instruments Panel Mount Thermal Printers Deliver Integration Ease and Great Value for Medical Devices

Torrance, CA, May 27, 2009 - Seiko Instruments USA Inc. (SIU) Thermal Printer Division, www.siiprinters.com, a globally recognized leader in thermal printer technology, today introduced a new series of drop-in, low-voltage thermal printers. The small footprint DPU-D series panel mount printers streamline integration and cut mechanical design time for engineers developing medical device and test and measurement applications. Priced at $144, the new printers deliver tremendous value.

"At Seiko Instruments, we understand the challenges engineers face meeting stringent design and compliance hurdles," said Kaz Onishi, Vice President and General Manager, Seiko Instruments USA. "The new DPU-D series printers are small, fast, and provide drop-in integration simplicity, giving medical device manufacturers a critical alternative to conventional printer mechanism designs".

By their nature, medical devices must have a long lifespan. Systems are complex and costly to develop, and a 5- to 10-year lifecycle is not unusual. These design criteria place extraordinary focus on the quality and durability of components used in the device. Low-voltage DPU-D series thermal printers are rated for a minimum 100 million pulses and 50km printed output, providing essential reliability and longevity.

Ease of use is another medical device prerequisite. The DPU-D series thermal printers are simple to operate, with EZ-OP(TM) clamshell-style paper replacement and intuitive LED readouts for displaying operating status.

The reduced footprint of the DPU-D series is a key advancement. The 2" print width DPU-D2 measures 3.15" wide by 2.7" deep and 3.34" high and can easily be slotted into the front panel of a medical device.

Operating on a low-voltage (5V-9V) power supply, DPU-D printers support print speeds up to 100 mm per second, for exceptionally fast output. The printers offer USB, Serial, and Parallel interface connectivity, and device drivers for Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Vista operating systems.
