The Savoy Selects Stakrak for Storage Solutions

Storage specialists STAKRAK LTD are delighted to have been involved in one of the most ambitious hotel restoration projects in history, The Savoy in London, which reopened its doors on Sunday, October 10th. The hotel closed in December 2007 for a restoration program that encompassed the entire building from the iconic entrance and the American Bar to Savoy Grill and the 268 guestrooms and suites.

Stakrak responded to an initial enquiry for wire bay shelving and subsequently supplied wire shelving products for trial and evaluation. The trials were successful and resulted in Stakrak supplying storage solutions throughout the entire hotel. Among the key features and benefits of the wire shelving products were; outstanding strength with a load capacity up to 300kg per shelf, ease-of-assembly, a modular design to enable re-configuration and finally an attractive appearance.

Given the huge scale of the restoration project it's not surprising that, once Stakrak had successfully met the initial challenges of the storage and racking requirements of the Savoy, they were asked to supply storage solutions throughout the entire building. These included ColdRoom Plus hygienic wire shelving in Catering stores, Housekeeping, Florists, Events department, River restaurant, Laundry and Plant room, while Mobile Stainless Steel workbenches and racks were chosen for Housekeeping, Florists and the Technical services departments. Stakrak also supplied HD Longspan Racking for the Plumber's store, Boiler room, Luggage store and the Florists.

The restoration of the Savoy has included environmental technologies and efficiencies wherever possible. For example, a combined heat and power (CHP) plant which will reduce the hotel's reliance on the national grid by approximately 50% and an innovative system which reclaims the heat from all kitchen appliances to preheat domestic hot water. Cooking oil from hotel's restaurants will be recycled and turned into biodiesel, while waste management systems will recycle up to 90% of waste from the hotel.

Commenting on the extensive and prestigious contract with the newly restored Savoy, Mark Richardson, Managing Director of Stakrak said, "The Savoy Hotel is steeped in history and oozes quality! We are delighted to have been involved with such an interesting and sometimes challenging project. All the staff at The Savoy involved with the fit-out have without exception been helpful, understanding and are a credit to the Hotel".
