Optrex America Offers 8.4-Inch Diagonal TFT LCDs In VGA and High-Resolution XGA Display Formats

Plymouth, MI, February 2003 - Leading LCD solution provider Optrex America offers rugged TFT color LCDs with 8.4-inch diagonal displays in both VGA and XGA formats for non-PC applications requiring outstanding front-of-screen performance and exceptional durability. Applications include test and measurement, industrial automation, process control and medical imaging and diagnostic equipment.

Both 8.4-inch diagonal TFT LCDs feature LCD panel, driver ICs, control circuit and 2 replaceable CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) backlights with a typical life of 50,000 hours. They also provide a wide viewing angle (110 deg. vertical x 130 deg. horizontal), reverse scan capability, an operating temperature of 0-60 deg. C, and AGLR (anti-glare, low reflection) surface treatment.

"Introducing both VGA and XGA displays in an 8.4-inch size," said Dale H. Maunu, Associate Director of Business Development at Optrex America, "is a critical step in enabling design engineers to migrate their designs to web-enabled platforms while maintaining their product form factors."

The VGA version (P/N T-51638D084-FW-A-AA) features a wide viewing angle and provides 640 x 480 dot pixel resolution, 260K colors, luminance of 400 nits (cd/m²), a 450:1 contrast ratio, and 35 ms. response time. It can handle shock to 150 Gs and vibration to 1 G. Optimum viewing angle is 6 o'clock.

The XGA version (P/N T-51639D084U-FW-A-AA) provides 1024 x 768 dot pixel resolution, 260K colors, luminance of 300 nits (cd/m²) and a 350:1 contrast ratio, with 25 ms. response time and shock and vibration resistance to 100 Gs and 1 G, respectively. Optimum viewing angle is 12 o'clock.

At 1024 x 768 pixels, the higher resolution of the 8.4-inch XGA version enables it to display more than 2.5 times the amount of information as the VGA model (152 ppi as opposed to 95 ppi), making it ideal for resolution-intensive applications like digital oscilloscopes.

Both modules are ideally suited to the requirements of the industrial, medical, instrumentation and navigation markets. They provide highly saturated color, and high contrast ratios while maintaining high luminance and fast response times.

Pricing for the Optrex 8.4-inch VGA module (P/N T-51638D084-FW-A-AA) is $440 in sample quantities. Pricing for the XGA version (P/N T-51639D084U-FW-A-AA) is $675 in sample quantities. For additional details, contact Optrex America.
