Neles ValvGuard(TM) System Now Available with Any Metso Automation Automated On-Off Valve

SHREWSBURY, MA (September 16, 2002)- Metso Automation's Neles ValvGuard(TM) testing and monitoring system for emergency valve applications can now be used in conjunction with any of the company's automated on-off valves. This gives users much greater flexibility to meet sizing and cost requirements for high integrity safety systems anywhere in their plants. Included among the valve choices available with Neles ValvGuard are Neldisc® and Jamesbury Wafer-Sphere® high-performance butterfly
valves, as well as the full line of Neles and Jamesbury metal and polymeric seated ball valves. All Metso Automation valves are available with Networking by StoneL(TM).

The Neles ValvGuard system automatically monitors and tests emergency shutdown (ESD) and emergency venting (ESV) valve performance and provides a warning so that simple, low-cost actions can be implemented before a dangerous situation occurs. Unlike traditional safety systems that require testing while the process is completely shut down, Neles ValvGuard allows operators to reliably test valve performance on-line, anytime, without disturbing the process. Since the exact condition of the valve is known at all times, scheduled maintenance periods can be extended and unnecessary process shutdowns and repairs avoided.

Metso Automation's automated on-off valves are ideal for safety valve applications, because of their rugged designs, and have been routinely used in the most challenging industrial environments. For more than 40 years, these proven, rotary valve designs have continually delivered unparalleled levels of performance, dependability and value. Metso Automation's pioneering developments in metallurgy as well as metal- and soft-seating technology have translated into valve products that set uncompromising standards for tight shut-off and long, trouble-free service.
