Corning Cable Systems Introduces FlexNAP(TM) Terminal Distribution System with New RPX(TM) Cable

Cable design allows simplified fiber access, reducing prep time to less than a minute

HICKORY, N.C. - Corning Cable Systems, part of Corning Incorporated's (NYSE:GLW) Telecommunications segment, introduces its FlexNAP(TM) Terminal Distribution System with RPX(TM) Ribbon Cable. Featuring a rectangular, flat profile and reducing cable preparation time to less than one minute, RPX Cable further eases the deployment of fiber-to-the-x networks using Corning Cable Systems' proven FlexNAP Terminal Distribution System.

Corning Cable Systems' FlexNAP System utilizes optical fiber cables upon which network access points are pre-installed at customer-specified locations along the length of the cable. The system provides installation speeds up to 85 percent faster than traditional cable deployment methods, decreasing the needed equipment, craft personnel and overall cost of deploying FTTx networks. The system also offers superior reliability, with factory-spliced tap points prepared in a controlled environment and 100 percent tested.

The FlexNAP System is now available with RPX Cable, a gel-free ribbon cable that further simplifies the installation process. The cable's flat profile is ideal for both aerial and buried applications, and the slim design allows the FlexNAP System distribution cable, tap point and tether to fit through 1.25-inch innerduct. The design reduces the cable size by up to 35 percent and its weight by up to 50 percent, resulting in lower shipping costs and a need for less manpower and equipment during deployment. In addition, it provides 1-step fiber access, reducing cable preparation time to less than one minute. The ribbon cable, available with up to 96 fibers, also offers the benefits and time savings of mass fusion splicing.

The FlexNAP(TM) Terminal Distribution System with RPX(TM) Cable will be featured in Corning Cable Systems' booth (#4440) at NXTcomm 2007, June 19-21 in Chicago.
