Teragram Powers Reed Business' Search

Taxonomy, Categorization and Entity Extraction Technology Increases Relevancy of Search within Company's Media Properties and External B-to-B Web Search Offerings

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Jan. 9 - Teragram, the leading provider of multilingual natural language processing technologies, today announced that its proprietary categorization, entity extraction and taxonomy management software is used to automatically organize international b-to-b media company Reed Business' (RB) hundreds of online media properties. In addition, RB has integrated Teragram's technologies into its b-to-b search engine offering, Zibb (www.zibb.com). Zibb scours b-to-b sites from throughout the Web and within RB media to find the most relevant, specific information possible.

Readers of RB online media, such as Variety.com, Electronic Business and Library Journal can now easily find information by category and simplify their search using Teragram's technology. As a result of using Teragram's software, RB is better able to provide targeted answers to its subscribers, leading to an increase in customer satisfaction and an improvement upon RB's bottom line. With Zibb, Teragram's software has extended RB site visitors' ability to find relevant, b-to-b specific answers they're looking for, not only from RB sources, but also from throughout the Web.

Last year, RB deployed Teragram's technology to build a custom set of rules to automatically map their content. These rules enable RB's system to have a semantic understanding of the pages that are pushed through it, meaning that a search query from a Web site reader could easily be understood by the system. The rules were extended to content throughout the Web to build Zibb.

Teragram's Automatic Categorization and TK240 taxonomy management system further organizes the content into categories and sub-categories, to simplify and increase the relevancy of search within the RB system. For example, if a reader of Variety.com logs on and searches on a specific term, such as "Tribeca Film Festival," Teragram's software will scan the Variety.com Web site and related entertainment content from throughout the Web for these and similar terms. Results can then be narrowed down by news, columns, reviews and more. Teragram's automatic categorization software can sort results into categories and subcategories such as "Film Festivals, U.S. Film Festivals, New York Film Festivals," etc.

"We wanted to look at b-to-b search from the perspective of the semantic Web, or Web 2.0," said Graeme McCracken, chief operating officer at RB Search. "Teragram was the lead vendor because they had the right balance of what we were after, and Teragram is by far the best at applying rules and classifications to content on our own sites and throughout the Web. Within five minutes, the Teragram team had proven that they had the enthusiasm and creativity to build a customized system to make our multi-part project a success. Teragram is able to help us provide very specific content to our readers, targeting exactly what they're looking for."

"We're proud to partner with RB on this significant advancement in the b- to-b search segment," said Yves Schabes, president of Teragram. "By enabling RB's users to easily access content that's specific to their needs, we're cementing our position as a leader in taxonomy, rule-creation and categorization for the online media industry. By helping digital publishers like RB better organize and monetize their content, we're working to improve upon the booming digital content industry."
