Danaher Industrial Controls Announces First Modular Temperature Indicators



New '+' Series Indicators Reduce Cost Via Optional Plug-In Output Modules

Chicago, May 23, 2005 -Danaher Industrial Controls Group (DICG) announces the '+' (Plus) Series digital panel indicators for its well-known Partlow and West brand controller product lines. The new 1/16 and 1/8 DIN indicators are the only panel indicators to be freely configurable via plug-in output boards. This modular approach reduces the cost of process monitoring because users only buy the outputs needed for the application, thus significantly reducing stocking requirements.

Like their predecessors, the '+" Series(TM) digital panel indicators are easy-to-use, low-cost solutions for temperature and process display applications - providing excellent visibility and high accuracy within a compact housing. Process values are shown in an easy-to-read numerical LED display that changes from bright green to bright red during an alarm condition.

Indicators are used in a wide variety of applications to display a process value - such as temperature zones in an industrial oven. Although most indicators have alarm outputs, indicators are usually used along side a temperature controller as a fail-safe backup. Common temperature display applications include industrial ovens, kilns, furnaces, drying chambers, food processing equipment, plastics forming equipment, and packaging/sealing machinery.

Plug-In Modules Lower Total Cost of Ownership
Users may customize DICG's new indicators for a variety of applications using optional plug-in modules for outputs, alarms, and communications. This will appeal to companies that, until now, have had to stock a wide range of indicators. With the '+' Series, companies keep only one type of limit controller in stock and adapt it for each application as required. The user pays only for the options needed.

When used in conjunction with optional output cards, the new "+" Series indicators provide process indication at a lower installed cost than comparable competitive indicators. Some suppliers require the user to stock different controllers for each type of input (thermocouple, RTD, DC linear.) By comparison, the '+' Series incorporates a universal input, minimizing stocking requirements. Also unusual in a limit controller, the '+' Series indicators provide for the auto-detection of hardware modules, and require no link jumper configurations. These combined features alone are estimated to reduce setup time and decreases the risk of setup mistakes by as much as 50 percent.

Many New Features
The newest members of DICG's '+' Series family, the indicators offer several new features that were not available on the company's previous models: latching alarms, multipoint scaling, tare function, auto-detection of installed output modules, jumperless input configuration, PC configuration software, faster RS-485 communication speeds, 10V SSR driver output, and transmitter power supply option.

Twice As Many Outputs
The optional plug-in modules enable up to five outputs - twice as many outputs as its predecessor. The outputs for alarms include 10V SSR drive, dual alarm relay, DC linear, and Triac. The 10V SSR drive output is a new feature that enables the user to drive up to three typical SSR/SCR outputs for enhanced application flexibility. Another new option is a 24 VDC transmitter power supply. Other outputs include retransmission of process value and RS-485 communication.

New Latching Relay Increases Safety
In the event of an alarm, such as when a high/low limit is reached, the device can output a control signal to shut down the process. This feature is particularly important in applications where process temperature runaway is a concern. All relay outputs may be configured as latched, requiring manual resetting to ensure the process is in a safe condition.

Improved Operation
Built on the company's next-generation platform, DICG's new indicators offer an improved, easy-to-use front panel HMI (Human Machine Interface). Users will benefit from consistent operation and design across the '+' Series family. This reduces training requirements as operators become familiar with the common styling and operating procedure for all '+' Series controllers. Also, when the controllers are installed together, they will produce a compatible, efficient working environment.

The auto-detection feature is particularly helpful to systems integrators and distributors who do lots of indicator setups, and to end-users upgrading in the field. Because the indicators automatically configure themselves as soon as output cards are fitted, users save valuable engineering time.

Fast, Easy Installation
A simple keypad on the face of each controller provides for fast, easy setup and program changes. Alternatively, the operator may use an intuitive Windows®-based configuration software that steps the user through the setup process. An optional user-selectable communications port is dedicated to this purpose (RS-485, Modbus®, ASCII protocols) and provides faster RS-485 communication than previous models.

The new indicators also provide backward compatibility and simple drop-in replacement for older models, because of their universal panel cutout, housing and terminal wiring. This ensures that no time is wasted changing wiring diagrams.
