Tyco Electronics' M/A-COM Business Provides IP-Based Radio Communications Networks With IP-Based Centralized Telephone Interconnect

LOWELL, Mass., August 6, 2007 - Tyco Electronics announced today that its M/A-COM business, a worldwide leader of critical radio communications systems, continued its leadership role in Internet Protocol technology and connectivity with the introduction of VIDA CTI (Centralized Telephone Interconnect). VIDA CTI provides direct IP connectivity between all M/A-COM VIDA (Voice Interoperability Data Access) networks and standard IP telephony systems. The VIDA CTI application allows IP, VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), and PBX (Private Branch eXchange) phone networks to seamlessly receive and place telephone calls to and from portable and mobile radios on the M/A-COM IP-based VIDA network.

"VIDA CTI is a powerful tool that allows our customers to connect to their radio communications system using cellular and landline phones," said Ricky To, product manager, Switching and Management Products, Tyco Electronics. "With VIDA CTI, an emergency communications administrator or executive can instantly contact a single user or an entire talkgroup, even when calling from outside the radio network's coverage area. Whether to provide mission critical instruction or to receive a crucial situation update, because of VIDA CTI, it's now possible to do so via any telephone over an analog, digital or encrypted network. VIDA CTI now bridges communications between the private radio system and the public telephone system and extends connectivity options and functionality for all of our users and the communities they serve."

VIDA CTI is a gateway application that utilizes SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) and RTP (Real-time Transport Protocol) telephony protocols. VIDA CTI features inbound and outbound selective calls and can simultaneously conduct up to 30 interconnected telephone calls, as well as caller identification on outbound calls. Call activity reporting is enhanced through the use of a public switched telephone network caller ID display. VIDA CTI also supports analog telephone lines, and works with all VIDA air interfaces, including P25IP (Project 25 to the power of IP), OpenSky, NetworkFirst and EDACSIP.

The M/A-COM VIDA network platform is a cost-effective, IP-based interoperable radio communications technology that supports P25 and other IP-based systems. It provides a full IP management platform including interoperability without intervention of console operators, IP consoles, networking technology for both the P25 phase I and P25 phase II standards, plus many other benefits inherent in open IP architecture systems. The inclusion of VIDA CTI as an application on the VIDA network further enhances the leading connectivity that the VIDA network provides.
