SIP-Based VoIP Solution Enables International Partners to Quickly Roll Out Packet-Based Telephony Products and Services

Verizon Business today announced the availability of a global VoIP Gateway Service for the wholesale market. The service, provided through Verizon Business' International Partner Solutions (IPS) business unit, enables wholesale customers to offer full IP Telephony to PSTN trunking services and global termination of calls through one single, scaleable solution. The resulting benefits are lower operational costs, reduced cost of ownership, competitive wholesale pricing and access to Verizon's network and partner relationships.

With network gateways planned in 12 European countries (and USA gateways in 45 metro areas), the VoIP Gateway Service offers global capabilities to wholesale customers, providing them a competitive advantage regardless of their level of core expertise. Whether customers are network-based or network-independent VoIP service providers, they can leverage both their own capital investments in VoIP-enabled network equipment and Verizon Business' award-winning network and experience to deliver innovative voice and other IP-based solutions. The service is based on Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), a standards-based signaling protocol for initiating interactive communications, including voice. SIP is now considered the superior standard in the industry.

"As one of the world's largest global wholesale service providers for VoIP solutions, we can offer our wholesale customers the added edge they need to do business in the growing VoIP market," explains Henrik Liungman, marketing director, Verizon Business IPS. "The IPS unit of Verizon Business combines our long-standing global expertise as a traditional PSTN operator with the proven performance of our IP network. The launch of the global VoIP gateway service significantly strengthens our play within the wholesale market and offers our customers a service that is unrivalled in terms of both scalability and choice."

Liungman concludes: "Built on one of the world's largest private IP backbones, our VoIP Gateway Service leads the industry. Our wholesale partners have the confidence to deliver truly innovative VoIP services knowing that they are working with a global partner that not only offers the reliability and quality of service needed for VoIP solutions, but also has vast experience."
