The IBM TotalStorage® 3494 Tape Library family of products continues to evolve to help address your changing storage requirements. Enhancements to the IBM TotalStorage 3494 Virtual Tape Server (VTS) Models B10 and B20 , and IBM TotalStorage 3494 Peer-to-Peer Virtual Tape Server (PtP VTS) provide:
Support for the IBM TotalStorage 3953 Library Manager Model L05 in an IBM TotalStorage 3953 Tape Frame Model F05
Attachment of IBM TotalStorage 3592 Tape Drives Model J1A in an IBM TotalStorage 3584 Tape Library to IBM zSeries® servers
Additional VTS enhancements include:
Larger logical volume sizes of up to 4,000 MB
More logical volumes, up to 500,000 per VTS (Model B20 only)
Virtual Tape Controller (VTC) mode select enhancements (PtP VTS only)
Support for secure data erase of logical volume data that has expired
High-capacity cache options that allow the use of a VTS in place of an optical library
These enhancements are designed to provide additional capacity, increased connectivity, and improved availability.
Key prerequisites
Library Manager (LM) feature number 5046, 5047, 9046, or 9047 is required for support of the increased system host enhancements. A microcode firmware update to the 3494 LM may be required.
The functions introduced in this announcement are supported for use with all currently supported host operating systems. For recommended zSeries support considerations refer to APAR OA09751.
