Magtrol Tandem Dynamometer Setups Provide Broad Torque and Speed Range Capabilities
Buffalo, NY - Magtrol has developed a tandem setup for their line of Eddy-Current and Powder Brake Dynamometers. When mounted in tandem, the unique features of each type of dynamometer brake are utilized allowing for broad torque and speed range capabilities.
Magtrol's Eddy-Current (WB) Dynamometers are ideal for applications requiring high speeds (up to 70,000 rpm) and when operating in the mid to high speed range. Torque is proportional to speed, reaching peak torque at approximately 10 to 25% of maximum speed capability. The dynamometers have low inertia as a result of small rotor diameter and a low residual torque of 1%. Brake cooling is provided by a water circulation system, which passes inside the stator to dissipate heat generated by the braking power. The water-cooling provides high continuous power ratings to a maximum of 140 kW. The WB dynamometers have accuracy ratings of typically +/- 0.3% to 0.5% full scale, depending on size and system configuration and a very long lifetime. Additional mounting possibilities include speed pick-up, mechanical rotor blocking device, OEM version and vertical mounting.
Magtrol's Powder Brake (PB) Dynamometers are ideal for applications operating in the low to mid speed range and mid to high torque range up to 1200 Nm (850 ft. lbs.) of torque. They provide full torque at zero speed and are water-cooled, with power ratings up to 48kW. They have system accuracy ratings of typically +/- 0.3% to 0.5% full scale, depending on size and system configuration.
