Zensys Announces Third Generation Z-Wave Chip

Industry's Lowest Cost, Lowest Power Consumption for Wireless Home Control

LONG BEACH, Calif., Nov. 15 / -- EHX Fall 2006 -- Zensys, developer of the award-winning Z-Wave wireless home control standard, today announced the launch of its third generation Z-Wave chip. The next-generation Z-Wave chip is the industry's lowest cost, lowest power consumption chip that is certain to further expand the market for wireless home control solutions.

Z-Wave enables one-touch wireless control of a wide array of home devices including lighting, entertainment, blinds, appliances, HVAC, access and security systems, and more.

"This is an exciting day for Z-Wave and the future of the wireless home control space," said Tony Shakib, CEO of Zensys. "In addition to offering the lowest cost and lowest power consumption, Z-Wave is also the first standard to support battery-to-battery networks, which extends the range of home control applications and makes it possible to have entire networks of battery-operated devices such as smoke detectors, blinds and even door locks."

The key features of the new Z-Wave ZW0301 Single Chip include the following:

o First standard to offer the support of battery-to-battery networks -
this enhanced functionality allows both the receiving and transmitting
devices to operate with just the power of a battery. It is even
possible to have entire networks equipped with battery-operated
devices.

o Lower Cost - depending on volume, the ZW0301 has 15 to 30 percent lower
cost than the 200-series generation of Z-Wave chips.

o Lower Power Consumption - the ZW0301 works with multiple power modes to
ensure minimum power consumption. In addition, an enhanced wakeup
timer allows to further reduce the power consumption in many
battery-based applications.

o Full Interoperability with Previous Versions - the ZW0301 is fully
interoperable to all previous Z-Wave versions.

"As one of the first developers to embrace Z-Wave technology, I'm confident this innovation will help expand the Z-Wave global ecosystem," said Chris Walker, president of ControlThink, a member of the Z-Wave Alliance that is reinventing home control by making it simpler and more affordable for all homeowners. "We are very impressed with the capabilities of the third generation Z-Wave chip and look forward to working with Zensys and the Z-Wave Alliance to establish Z-Wave as the standard in wireless home control."

The ZW0301 System-on-a-Chip (SoC) is a complete wireless solution consisting of an integrated RF transceiver, an 8051 microcontroller, flash and SRAM memory storage and a range of peripherals including battery monitoring and ultra low power sleep mode with an enhanced wake up timer. The 300 series SoC is fully compatible with the 100 and 200 series systems and can be easily incorporated into customer's existing product lines.

Together with the ZW0301 chip, Zensys will also release corresponding Z- Wave modules incorporating the new chip. The smallest module - ZM3102 - is only 12.5x13.6mm in size and is pin-to-pin compatible with the ZM2102 that is used in high volume by many OEMs. The ZM3102 will cost less than $4.50 in volume.

"The next-generation Z-Wave chip will further help us meet our objective of bringing the benefits of wireless home control to the mass market," added Shakib. "We have a substantial lead in the residential lighting and entertainment control industries and we're confident our third generation chip will open more doors in emerging home control markets such as healthcare."

Z-Wave-enabled products are already available from leading consumer brands in more than 100 products, giving Z-Wave a significant time-to-market advantage over competing wireless home control solutions. More than 125 companies - including industry giants Cooper Industries, Danfoss, Intermatic, Leviton, Monster, Wayne-Dalton and Universal Electronics (UEI) - are members of the Z-Wave Alliance and have selected Z-Wave as their home control technology of choice.
