Original Press Release:

PFU Systems(TM) Introduces Plug-N-Run(TM) G3 -- Industry's First, System-on-Modules with Intel® Pentium® M Processor for Industrial Automation Solutions

Next generation Plug-N-Run G3 modules offer OEMs fast and low risk adoption of Intel Pentium M processors in their embedded solutions.

ISA 2003 Booth # 1135 (Bluetooth Pavilion) Houston, TX, October 23, 2003 - PFU Systems, Inc., manufacturer of System-on-Modules for embedded solutions, announced today the first two Plug-N-Run G3 System-on-Modules with Intel® Pentium® M processors. ISA 2003 attendees are among the first to see these new modules with 855GME chipset in rugged, compact form factor for mobile and "green" embedded solutions. The new modules enable OEM designers to make an early adoption of the most-advanced Intel Pentium M processors into their embedded system solutions without the risks associated with complex, high-speed designs; thereby minimizing development time, cost, risk and time-to-market. The Plug-N-Run G3 has value-added features for support of intelligent power management, on-demand performance, secure computing and diskless operation. These features benefit industrial automation applications, such as tablet computers, forklift-mounted computers, robots and process-control consoles. The packaging of advanced Pentium M processors in a robust and highly reliable off-the-shelf component provides systems designers immediate access to state of the art embedded host technology to incorporate innovative technologies for power management and secure computing in their products.

"With the new Plug-N-Run G3 modules we listened to our customers who are demanding x86 productivity solutions that do not sacrifice performance for low power consumption," said Kishan Jainandunsing, vice president marketing of PFU Systems, Inc. "With this new generation of SOM components, PFU Systems continues to lead a market with a 67% CAGR according to Venture Development Corp., and continues to maintain high standards of quality, reliability, flexibility and accuracy and completeness of product documentation. The Plug-N-Run G3 enables OEMs to pro-actively design-in from the start application-specific power management and security policies in partnership with their customers, avoiding costly field upgrades, product returns and support issues."

Plug-N-Run G3 modules provide Gigahertz performance and low, average power dissipation through intelligent power management. Plug-N-Run G3 power management controls provide the flexibility to set power-dissipation limits by combining Enhanced Intel® SpeedStep® Technology, graphics processor frequency selection and powering down integrated I/O devices. This offers OEM designers a broad spectrum of operating points to choose from.

Plug-N-Run G3 modules, designed with secure computing and diskless operation in mind means ISA attendees are seeing how PFU Systems' RazorBlade(TM) System-on-Modules speed up implementation of embedded boot server solution, for higher reliability, lower TCO and increased security of diskless clients in embedded applications.

Secure computing helps OEMs in the industrial automation industry build products that are less easily compromised and that reduce chances of operator error. The on-board 10/100Base-T Ethernet controller with integrated PXE code makes network boot features easy to implement. This eliminates the need for persistent storage of operating system and data, and lowers the total cost of ownership (TCO). Furthermore, diskless systems are more rugged and secure. PFU Systems' Signature(TM) technology facilitates user, application, OS and BIOS authentication, allowing OEMs to implement application-specific platform-security policies.

Integrated Features

The Plug-N-Run G3 integrate the following features in a 160mm x 100mm x 13.5mm (6.3" x 3.9" x 0.5") footprint:

Intel® Pentium® M Processor, Intel® 855GME graphics and memory controller hub and Intel® ICH4 I/O controller hub.

Expansion up to 1GB of DDR SDRAM memory.

Gaming-like 3D graphics performance.

Dual, independent display pipes and multi display panel support.

Mezzanine interface connector for PCI bus, USB 2.0, ATA100 IDE, LPC bus, SMBus, DVO, serial ports, GPIO, powerand ground.

Dual LVDS channels, parallel port and FDD interfaces.

Phoenix(TM) Technologies FirstBIOS(TM).

Compatibility with Linux®, Microsoft® Windows® 2000,XP, and popular RTOSes.

Revision ROM for efficient field maintenance.

Shock and vibration resistance up to 50G and 2.2G, respectively.

ISA attendees are among the first to see how Plug-N-Run(TM) System-on-Modules and NomadFIRE(TM) carrier boards speed up implementation of industrial automation solutions for Bluetooth, FireWire, Wi-Fi and biometric security applications.
