Valvoline Introduces: Premium Blue Extreme Synthetic Engine Oil

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 1, 2002) - The Valvoline Company has developed a synthetic engine oil, Premium Blue(R) Extreme, that offers extended drain capability and fuel economy benefits for heavy-duty fleet applications. This product meets all requirements for the API CI-4 performance classification, as well as Cummins CES 20078.

The innovative technology of Premium Blue Extreme is specifically designed to enhance performance and maintain extended drain intervals, up to 100,000 miles, in select engines under certain operating conditions. Additionally, Premium Blue Extreme provides fuel economy savings compared to conventional oils, which can lead to lower operating costs for owner/operators and fleets.

Premium Blue Extreme, which is endorsed and recommended by Cummins Inc., has been extensively tested by Cummins in '02 cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) engines in the lab and on the road. Premium Blue Extreme is formulated to protect modem environmentally friendly engines.

"Our team has worked extremely hard to develop a synthetic that provides a better value to the customer in modem engines," said Bill Runkle, director of commercial brands and technical services at The Valvoline Company. "And as EGR engines are becoming the new standard, Premium Blue Extreme offers a high-quality product that will combat effectively the added stress levels put on engine oils today." Among a host of Premium Blue Extreme benefits is its unique Dispersive Polymer Technology (DPT), which disperses individual soot particles. As soot particle buildup will ultimately lead to clogged filters, Premium Blue Extreme DPT technology keeps oil flowing smoothly to enhance valve train wear protection and engine cleanliness.

Because EGR engines generate higher operating temperatures that can lead to carbon buildup, the Premium Blue Extreme synthetic design helps to manage heat transfer, thus ensuring engine durability. Additionally, Premium Blue Extreme engine oil combines the low-temperature viscosity of an SAE 5W with the protective capacity of an SAE 40 to allow engines to operate much easier at extreme high and low temperatures.

"It's important to offer extremely efficient products in today's competitive environment, and Premium Blue Extreme is a cutting-edge engine oil that will greatly benefit fleet operators with multiple engine types under extreme operating conditions," said Runkle.

The Valvoline Company, a division of Ashland Inc., is a leading worldwide supplier of automotive and industrial products and services sold in more than 140 countries. The company markets Valvoline(R) motor oil, VALVOSEAL(R) tire sealant, Pyrol(R) automotive chemicals and refrigerants, Zerex(R) antifreeze, Valvoline All-Fleet(R) engine oils, Premium Blue(R) engine oils and Eagle One(R) truck appearance products.
