Synthesizer Module suits GSM/Edge telecom base stations.

Press Release Summary:

Combining voltage controlled oscillator, fast-hopping fractional PLL, and loop filter, Synthesizer Module provides frequency hopping across GSM band with phase settled in 20 ms and 5° margin of error. Unit replaces double ping-pong synthesizer and requires no external components. Acting as plug-and-play device, module can be directly interfaced with mixer on output and precise reference clock on input.

Temex Announces Fast Hopping Synthesizer Modules for GSM/Edge Telecom Base Stations

Temex, one of the worldwide leaders in the field of high-performance time-and-frequency components and sub-systems, announces the launch of fast-hopping synthesizer modules for GSM/EDGE base stations. Based on its strong experience and know-how in designing and producing RF components, Temex has developed this new module to offer its customers a turnkey solution, which combines VCO (voltage controlled oscillator), fast-hopping fractional PLL, and loop filter.

This new single module replaces a double ping-pong synthesizer while improving overall performance. Designed to meet the GSM/EDGE lock-time requirements for base stations, this new module offers many advantages such as frequency hopping across the GSM band with phase settled in 20 microseconds with a 5° margin of error, low phase noise due to the high-performance VCO, low level of spurious signals, and requiring no external components. It can be directly interfaced with a mixer on the output and a precise reference clock on the input-the module acts like a plug-and-play device.

Because this turnkey solution is smaller and less expensive than other modules, thanks in part to a system's component count reduced by 50 to 60 percent, it helps reduce overall system cost. This can therefore simplify and shorten a company's product-development lead-time, explains Stephane Chamaly, a Temex field application engineer.

Temex recently announced its strategic repositioning on time-and-frequency solutions, and, by offering this module adapted to a customer's evolving needs, continues its growth strategy. "Temex pursues its new development strategy based on breakthrough innovations to follow its customers up the value chain while achieving their cost and performance goals," says Jean-Yves Courtois, Temex CEO. "We have already had some advanced discussions with several worldwide customers who appreciate the features and advantages of using this new type of turnkey solution," he says.
