Synchronous DC-DC Regulator delivers up to 3 A.

Press Release Summary:

Housed in 3 x 3 mm, 16-pin TQFN package, MAX15041 features built-in MOSFETs that offer 93% efficiency while minimizing EMI. Device operates from fixed 350 kHz PMW frequency and utilizes peak-current-mode architecture to simplify compensation. Operating from 4.5-28 V input voltage, regulator provides ±1% output-voltage accuracy over temperature range of -40 to +85°C. It includes enable input and power-good indicator, and offers ability to safely start up into pre-biased output.

Original Press Release:

Low-Cost, Synchronous DC-DC Regulator Delivers up to 3A in a 3mm x 3mm Package

DC-DC regulator with 3A output current saves space and cost.

Maxim's new buck regulator integrates two power switches in its compact TQFN to save space, reduce EMI, and simplify design.

SUNNYVALE, CA - Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX15041, a synchronous DC-DC converter with integrated MOSFETs in a small 3mm x 3mm package. The built-in MOSFETs offer higher efficiency (93%) than asynchronous solutions, while simplifying design and minimizing EMI. Capable of delivering up to 3A, the MAX15041 is ideally suited for a variety of point-of-load applications including telecom and networking equipment, as well as low-cost consumer products.

This device operates from a fixed 350kHz PWM frequency and utilizes a peak-current-mode architecture to simplify compensation. This topology ensures excellent load transient response, thus enabling an all-ceramic-capacitor design. Other features include an enable input and power-good indicator. This converter also offers the ability to safely start up into a prebiased output.

The MAX15041 operates from a 4.5V to 28V input voltage and provides ±1% output-voltage accuracy over temperature. Available in a space-saving, 3mm x 3mm, 16-pin TQFN package, the device is fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range. Prices start at $1.80 (1000-up, FOB USA).
