Original Press Release:

Westinghouse Type W and Type W2 Switches

WEYMOUTH, MA - Electroswitch now produces Westinghouse Type W and Type W-2 replacement switches for existing systems in the power industry. Originally manufactured by Westinghouse, these panel-mount instrument and control switches, though seldom used in new systems, are prevalent in many existing systems and are available exclusively through Electroswitch. The Type W Switch is available with maintained, momentary, slip, or lateral contacts. All contacts are silver-plated for low resistance. Contacting is available as nonshorting ("break-before-make") or shorting ("make-before-break"). One side of the switch housing slides out for easy contact inspection, and each stud is numbered for terminal identification. The standard black nameplate can be engraved to your requirements. This switch can be built with up to 10 decks, up to 10 poles, and up to 12 positions. It has a continuous rating of 20 amps at 600 volts and is available with various interrupt ratings (5-50A at 120-600VAC or 8A at 125VDC). The control-switch configuration features a mechanical red/green target and spring return to normal (vertical) position. The Type W2 Switch is a rotary-roller-action switch available with up to six rollers. Roller contacts are self-aligning and require no adjustment of contact pressure for the life of the switch. The spring-actuated design provides for momentary, maintained, or combination contacting with up to three key interlocks. All contacts are silver-plated for low resistance and enclosed in a glass polyester frame. Contacting can be nonshorting ("break-before-make") or shorting ("make-before-break"). This switch can be built with up to eight decks, up to 48 poles, and up to 12 positions with 30° positive indexing. It has a continuous rating of 20 amps at 600 volts and is available with various interrupt ratings (8-30A at 120-600VAC or 1-5A at 125-250VDC). The instrument-switch configuration features a pull-to-lock handle. The control-switch configuration features a mechanical red/green target, spring return to normal (vertical) position, a positive detent mechanism, and optional slip or lateral contacts. Prices start at $50 with delivery quoted at 3 weeks ARO.
