Switches offer support for IPv4 and IPv6 routing.

Press Release Summary:

With Layer 3 routing functionality beyond standard RIP and OSPF, Models DGS-3650 (48-ports) and DGS-3627 (24-ports) suit environments that require managed, full-featured centralized point of termination for multiple fiber cable connections. Multi-layer switches provide option to stack at up to 40 GBps, and allow up to 32 units to be managed via single IP address. Units feature support for 12 1000BASE-X and/or 100BASE-FX fiber transceivers, and L2/3/4 QoS and ACLs.

D-Link® Introduces Two New Fully Managed Layer 3 IPv6 Switching Solutions at Interop Las Vegas 2007

Newest Members of the xStack(TM) Family Address Next-Generation Internet Protocol v6 Routing and Long Distance Fiber Cable Connectivity

LAS VEGAS, BOOTH 1261, MANDALAY BAY CONVENTION CENTER, May 21 -- D-Link®, the end-to-end networking solutions provider for consumer and business, will showcase the latest additions to its popular xStack(TM) switch family -- the xStack 3600 series -- offering support for Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) routing, the next level of IP addressing now being adopted by government and education organizations, at Interop Las Vegas 2007.

D-Link recently launched the 12-port DGS-3612G, a Layer 3 managed switch designed for long-distance connections of more than 330 feet and will be unveiling two sister products, the DGS-3650, a 48-port version, and the DGS-3627, a 24-port version in the D-Link booth, #1261.

The move from IPv4 to IPv6 routing addresses the growing need for additional public IP addresses because each new device on the Internet is assigned an IP address, and the number of available addresses is nearly depleted. The D-Link 3600 series focuses on this need and offers a solution for demanding enterprise connectivity applications.

The xStack 3600 series of switches are designed for small- to medium-sized businesses (SMB), larger enterprise environments and public sector environments that require a managed, full-featured switch as a centralized point of termination for multiple fiber cable connections.

"Support for IPv6 routing is important to securing the future of the network and is key when conducting business with governmental agencies, many of which have been mandated to switch from IPv4 to IPv6 as the Internet expands," said AJ Wang, chief technical officer for D-Link. "One of the benefits of IPv6 is that it offers a new pool of IP addresses to assure that there are enough available to facilitate this growing need and protect future investments."

With support for demanding administrative and enterprise connectivity applications, the xStack 3600 series offers multi-layer, Gigabit switches that provides advanced security, high availability and the option to stack at up to 40Gbps.

"These latest offerings are designed to meet the needs of the SMB and enterprise environments needing a managed, full-feature Layer 3 switch solution at the network edge or switching core," added Wang.

Norm Bogen, an analyst with In-Stat, a leading industry research firm, said "D-Link's support of IPv6 routing is a significant development. As IPv4 addresses rapidly dwindle, it is crucial that more manufacturers like D-Link ensure the continued expansion of enterprise network access both in the short and long term.

"To put the importance of IPv6 into perspective, it will increase the number of addresses available for networked devices from about 4.3 billion addresses to 50 octillion addresses for each of the 6.5 billion people on the Earth," he said, adding that IPv6 address space will increase from 32 bits to 128 bits in length.

The multi-layer, Single IP Management (SIM) 3600 switch family also provides virtual stacking functionality, allowing up to 32 units to be managed via a single IP address.

Key Features and Benefits of the 3600 family:

o Full dynamic routing with support for IPv4 & IPv6

o Supports 12 1000BASE-X and/ or 100BASE-FX Fiber transceivers

o Mix and match transceivers to meet user network needs

o Advanced L2/3/4 QoS and ACLs

o Enhanced Layer 3 routing functionality beyond standard Dynamic
RIP & OSPF, making it perfect for campus and hotel environments

o D-Link's Safeguard Engine(TM) for added protection from Denial of
Service attacks
