Switches interface pneumatics and electrical devices.

Press Release Summary:

Pneumatically Actuated Switches enable use of pneumatics to remotely pilot electrical switches. Pressure actuator has spring biased piston with U-cup seal that requires pressure as low as 5 psig to actuate either sub-miniature or miniature electrical switch. Approximate actuation pressures of 5, 20, 40, or 80 psig ± 10% can be supplied. Switches have 5/8-32 external thread for mounting. Range of current ratings and terminal styles are available.

Original Press Release:

For Low Cost, Compact Size, and Ease of Installation, Clippard Makes the Switch

The Clippard product line continues to expand with the development of Pneumatically Actuated Switches, a new series of air actuated electrical switches that enable the easy use of pneumatics to remotely pilot electrical switches. The advantage of this product series over larger, more expensive adjustable switches is that customers have a wide range of options, enabling them to obtain the specifications they need in a low cost, compact unit, that is easy to install.

The pressure actuator has a spring biased piston with a U-cup seal that requires pressure as low as 5 psig to actuate either a sub-miniature or miniature electrical switch. Approximate actuation pressures of 5, 20, 40, or 80 psig ( +/- 10 %) can be supplied.

The electrical switch is available in both sub-miniature (SAS models) and miniature (MAS models) sizes, with a variety of current ratings and terminal styles. Choosing either the SAS or MAS model depends on size limitations, desired terminal configuration, and current rating. On the sub-miniature models only, the electrical switch is lever actuated, and may be used as a manual override.

This product is also available with a manually operated stem that may be combined with any of Clippard's mechanical valve actuators: roller cam, ball actuator, or push button.

The pneumatically actuated models have a 5/8-32 external thread, and the mechanically actuated models have a 15/32-32 external thread for mounting. All models are available without a switch, for use with existing switches. Actuation pressures may vary if the actuator is used with user supplied switch.

Sample applications for this product:
o Signal a low pressure condition in a volume tank, indicating the need for replacement/rechange, or the automatic switch to another tank and isolation of the depleted tank.
o Give a signal to a PLC to indicate that a vessel is full or empty of a gas.
o Start a pump when a certain liquid level is attained.
o Indicate back pressure sensing to give an electric output when a certain cylinder position can be achieved.

Further information on Clippard's new line of Pneumatically Actuated Switches will be available in Technical Data Bulletin 1.03.
