Appleton MD2SR Switched Receptacles Designed for Hazardous Locations

ROSEMONT, IL, April 19, 2005 - The Appleton MD2SR is a factory-sealed, dead-front interlocked switched receptacle that brings greater flexibility to engineers working in locations rated as "hazardous" by the National Electric Code (NEC). It is listed for use by the NEC in Class I and Class II hazardous locations, such as petrochemical plants, chemical factories, certain utilities and industrial processing areas where explosive gases or fluids are present.

Key safety features include positive polarization; a defeatable door interlock; and an insulated, dual-color operating handle that indicates when the switch is energized

The MD2SR reduces installation time because it's compatible with Appleton ACP plugs as well as those of other manufacturers. It comes ready to mount with stainless steel key-hole feet; a hinged cover that is fully removable for improved access; and pre-drilled and tapped for 1-1/2 inch conduit entries. Waterproof and corrosion-resistant, it has a copper-free aluminum enclosure that's protected by an epoxy powder coating, inside and out.

Stationary or portable electrical devices, such as lighting systems, conveyors, heaters, motor generator sets, air conditioners and pumps, can be used with the receptacle.

The MD2SR Fused and non-fused designs are offered with the short-circuit rating of 200,000 RMS Symmetrical Amperes for the Class J fusing, and 10,000 RMS for the unfused model.
