Surge Protectors are designed for broadband applications.

Press Release Summary:

Measuring 5 x 7.2 mm, Bourns® 2054 series 3-electrode gas discharge tube (GDT) surge protectors are available in voltages from 230-470 V offering protection for telecom, commercial, and industrial applications. They help prevent damage from transient disturbances by creating short-to-ground circuit during conduction. Device becomes ionized and provides rapid conduction when electrical surge exceeds defined breakdown voltage level of GDT, and returns to off state when surge passes.

Bourns Announces New Series of Surface Mount GDT Surge Protectors Designed for Broadband Protection

New GDT Devices Offer Robust Protection for Telecom, Commercial and Industrial Applications

RIVERSIDE, Calif., July 13, 2009 - Bourns, Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic components, today announced a new series of three-electrode surface mount Gas Discharge Tube (GDT) surge protection devices ideal for broadband applications due to their ultra-low capacitance and low insertion and return loss performance. Designated the Bourns® 2054 Series, the robust devices are available in voltages from 230 to 470V and also feature RoHS* compliant versions. The Bourns® 2054 Series feature a compact size (5 x 7.2 mm) and offer superior protection characteristics suitable for a broad range of applications including telecommunications, commercial and industrial applications.

Bourns® GTDs help prevent damage from transient disturbances by creating a short-to-ground circuit during conduction. When an electrical surge exceeds the defined breakdown voltage level of the GDT, the device becomes ionized and rapid conduction takes place. When the surge passes and the system voltage returns to normal levels, the GDT returns to its high-impedance "off" state.

"GDTs are realizing growing market demand for use in broadband communication applications and Bourns is matching that need with its newest GDT 2054 Series for robust circuit protection in a cost-effective, compact package" said Craig Shipley, GDT products general manager for Bourns, Inc. "Bourns' new GDT devices provide excellent board-level protection of broadband applications and are also UL Recognized."
