New Technology from Infor Enables Manufacturers to Track Location and Timing of Material in Transit

ATLANTA, October 25, 2005 - Infor, the largest global enterprise software provider exclusively focused on developing solutions for the manufacturing and distribution industries, today released new technology that allows manufacturers to see exactly where shipments are located during transit along their supply chains and provides reliably updated information on the estimated time of arrival for each shipment.

As an element of Infor's Manufacturing Essentials for Automotive, Infor's Global Track and Trace module allows manufacturers to overcome the tracking problems inherent in today's shipments from overseas locations and in domestic shipments that follow complex routes. Integrated into the Infor SupplyWEB 9.3 supply chain management solution, this Web-based application not only identifies the exact location of a shipment but also consistently calculates its projected arrival date and provides visual alerts by exceptions.

With this information, manufacturers can determine what the status of their inventories will be at the time the shipment arrives. Then they can make proactive purchasing, scheduling or production decisions.

Until now, companies engaged in discrete manufacturing were able to determine which items were included in a shipment and their quantity, but could not tell where a shipment was located at any point in time, when it might be delayed (or arrive early), nor how far off schedule it may be. Typically, they would find out about late arrival of critical components too late to plan for the delay. Unable to make an informed decision, managers often hedged their shipments by keeping greater-than-necessary inventory on hand or paying high prices for premium freight to expedite parts when shortages occurred as a result of late shipments.

Through Infor's new module, however, the impact of late or early shipments becomes quantifiable and actionable. "With Infor Global Track and Trace, we now are able to optimize our inventory in transit," said Thomas Klein of Tenneco Automotive, "and we can proactively focus on the key impacted items within a late shipment."

As part of Infor SupplyWEB 9.3, an open-platform product for supply chain management that gives users access to their supply chains from anywhere in the world, Infor Global Track and Trace provides a number of benefits that further current initiatives of manufacturers. It promotes lean production by avoiding excess inventory, aids cost reduction by averting unnecessary purchases or expensive premium shipments and enables faster order-to-delivery times by eliminating confusion or misunderstandings about the status of in-transit shipments.

Today, more than 20,000 automotive suppliers use Infor SupplyWEB. Discrete manufacturers operating with the Infor SupplyWEB 9.3 release can employ the Infor Global Track and Trace module, with answers to such questions as:

o What is in transit?

o Where is the material located in the route?

o Will the material arrive on-time, early, or late?

o What events/issues may be created because of the new arrival time?

o What is the impact on the plant's inventory position?

o Did the carrier miss a pickup or departure window along the route?

o Is the quantity of the material accurate in relation to the ASN quantity or scheduled quantity to be picked up?

o Are any surprises or concerns likely to be encountered en route?

With its easy-to-use Web-browser interface, Infor Global Track and Trace produces savings through lower transportation expenses, less inventory, and decreased total logistics cost by eliminating unknowns and unnecessary buffer stocks.
