Original Press Release:

Lightweight Supplied-Air Respirator For Welders Permits Airflow Adjustment of 6 to 15 CFM; Ideal For Very Hot Or Strenuous Jobs

The Speedglas® Fresh-air® II SA (Supplied Air) 9000 respiratory system is appropriate for many welding applications that generate high levels of particle fumes and gases. Its adjustable airflow is also ideal for welders with strenuous applications, or those working in warm environments. A user-adjustable, belt-mounted, airflow valve supplies filtered air to the welder. A Speedglas air supply hose of up to 100' length connects the airflow valve to the Fresh-air Purification and Regulation Panel (SA PRP200-B). The PRP200-B panel filters standard "shop" compressed air so it complies with OSHA, CSA and ISO standards for respirable supplied air. Welders can select one of three airflow valve models: the Control-air valve allows the adjustment of the airflow rate; the Cool-air valve permits the user to lower the temperature of the supplied air by up to 45°F; and the Temp-air valve allows either the cooling or warming of the supplied air by ±45°F. A complete Fresh-air® II SA 9000 System weighs only 3.64 to 4.16 lbs., depending upon the airflow valve selection. The system includes one of four Speedglas 9000 auto-darkening lenses; a complete welding helmet with an airduct assembly and ratcheting headband for fast user adjustments; a face seal; a headcover; a breathing tube; an adjustable belt; a carrying bag; and one of three belt-mounted airflow valves. The respiratory system is approved to NIOSH 42 CFR 84, while the auto-darkening lens and helmet meet the ANSI Z87.1 standard for industrial eye and face protection. As an option, the welding helmet is also available with the patented Speedglas SideWindows(TM) shade 5 lenses, which increase the welder's peripheral vision by 100%.
