Sun Microsystems Accelerates Web 2.0 Build Out with First-of-Its-Kind Program for Startups

New Sun Startup Essentials Program Removes Barriers with Sun Discounts of Up to 55 Percent, Enables Startups to Capitalize on the Benefits of the Solaris Operating System (OS)
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 8 -- WEB 2.0 Summit -- Underscoring its commitment to facilitating the Web 2.0 build out, Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:SUNW) today announced Sun Startup Essentials(TM), a new program designed to enable early-stage companies to run their businesses on Sun's enterprise-class technologies at a cost that fits their budgets. The program will offer eligible startups a range of Sun products and services at significant discounts, including its award-winning Sun Fire(TM) x64 (x86, 64-bit) and CoolThreads(TM) servers powered by the most advanced operating system on the planet, the Solaris(TM) Operating System (OS).
The announcement comes just days after Sun's standing room only Startup Camp event, which gathered more than 400 entrepreneurs to share their insights, war stories and learnings about turning ideas into viable businesses. Over the course of the two-day "un-conference," campers discussed and debated business strategy and technology topics from financing and identifying management teams to open source and data interoperability for startups. Sun will host another Startup Camp within the next six months. Today's announcement coincides with the Bay Area's Web 2.0 Summit where Sun is a SILVER sponsor.
