Submetering Kit monitors voltage, current, and power factor.

Press Release Summary:

With Electrocorder EC-7VAR Kit, users can view onsite power consumption in kilowatt hours, as well as identify voltage supply faults and power spikes. Three-phase meter is available in 4 models recording at amp ranges from 4 A to 3 kA. Using constant data sampling technique, logger samples each cycle multiple times for up to 300 days of continuous recording. All models include logger, 4 voltage leads, 3 Rogowski Coils, USB lead, software, and carrying case.

CAS DataLoggers Introduces 3-Phase Submetering Kit

Electrocorder EC-7VR Data Logger Kit Saves on Energy Costs

CHESTERLAND OH- The average voltage supply for businesses often turns out to be higher than the ideal operating voltage for most electrical equipment such as lighting and motors. For example, a 230V linear appliance used on a 240V supply will take 4.3% more current and will consume almost 9% more electricity. Multiply that across all the appliances in a building and the cost quickly adds up. Therefore customers need an affordable power metering system to achieve reductions in energy consumption, costs, and carbon emissions. Now CAS DataLoggers introduces the Electrocorder EC-7VAR 3-phase Voltage, Current and Power Factor Data Logger Kit which allows users to view onsite power consumption given in kilowatt hours as a result of recording in order to realize substantial energy savings. Economically priced and offering much more than comparable products, this comprehensive kit also enables customers to identify voltage supply faults and power spikes, useful during the fault-prone season.

The new kit monitors power (kW)/energy (kWh) usage, checks voltage and current variations helping users to diagnose any related issues, and gathers data to make representations to power suppliers. Since the data logger records both voltage and current, users can determine if low voltage is related to high current demands onsite or if the low voltage is being supplied to the site. The EC-7VAR kit is available in 4 models recording at different amp ranges, from 4A to 3kA (90kVA-690kVA per phase to 270kVA-2MVA total). All models include the datalogger itself, 4 voltage leads, 3 Rogowski Coils, a USB lead, free software, and a convenient carrying case. The Rogowski Coils fit around 140mm diameter cables and break open at the black joint, allowing them to be placed around the cables without having to break the main circuit.

Other datalogger brands briefly wake up to take a single 'snapshot' sample but then go back to sleep, missing nearly all of the critical information. However, the new Electrocorder kit uses a constant data sampling technique which samples each cycle multiple times for up to 300 days of continuous recording, missing very little data and enabling truly detailed metering. When only a single phase voltage supply is easily accessible, the EC-7VAR can be used to monitor and record 3 phase energy using three current inputs and a single phase voltage input rather than the normal 3 voltage inputs.

Additionally, free Electrosoft software is provided in the kit, allowing users to define the voltage so they can plot power and energy and then simply upload recorded data via USB to a PC for analysis using Electrosoft. Power factor is recorded for the voltage channel L1 and the current channel A1; this is then used to calculate the real (Watts), reactive (VARs) and apparent (VA) power for all 3 phases using the Electrosoft software. Power factor measurement also allows users to determine if power factor correction is needed for the site.

Dave Clark, Applications Specialist with CAS DataLoggers, explained the new submetering datalogger kit's value: "When you're looking to purchase a logger with good speed and memory, along with leads and coils, you can easily go over your initial budget. With our Electrocorder kit, though, you pay one low price and you're ready to start your project. While you record, you can also view results in kilowatt hours, which is great when you need to view power consumption for clients and customers."
