Guardian from Unilux Increases Light Output and Operator Flexibility

SADDLE BROOK, NJ June 16, 2003 - Printers and converters can optimize their inspection viewing on narrow-web presses, slitters and rewinders with the new Guardian stroboscopic surface inspection light from Unilux Inc. (www.unilux.com). Designed to fit the footprint of the Lith-O-Light (LOL)-10, the Guardian provides double the light output of the LOL-10 6000 model and 50 percent more light than LOL-10 3600 model at
maximum flash rate. The Guardian replaces both models. The new light has a cooling fan to increase lamp life and a toggle switch to change between manual operation and automatic synchronization to line speed.

"The Guardian's brighter light will be welcomed in most shops, where there are higher levels of ambient light on narrow-web equipment, especially slitters and rewinders," said Mike Simonis, vice president, international sales. "We are constantly listening and working with our customers to find out what they need in new inspection lighting and what will make their jobs easier. Adding the toggle switch for switching from internal to
external synchronization of line speed is a major new convenience to the operator and we haven't met a customer yet that didn't want a brighter light. The new cooling fan for
longer lamp life makes the Guardiatn an even better value."

Unilux stroboscopic lighting enables operators and inspectors to see surface defects and imperfections in real time at full production speeds. The light's short-duration, high-intensity light pulses make webs moving at up to 700m (2,000 ft) per minute appear motionless. This, in turn, provides "frozen" images that make surface defects stand out for identification and correction.

The Guardian can be powered by any voltage from 90 to 250 VAC at 50/60 Hz, putting out 1 joule per flash at 3600 flashes per minute. Its light output is 2700 Lux (250 foot candles) when mounted 30cm (1 ft) from the inspection area with full intensity at 6000 flashes per minute. Flash duration is 20 microseconds. The Guardian is designed for continuous operation at temperatures ranging from 0° to 40°C (32° to 104°F) in non-condensing humidity levels up to 95 percent.
