Tennant Expands StreetMaster(TM) Series and Street Sweeping Innovations with New Sentinal(TM)

MINNEAPOLIS, MN-July 2, 2003-Tennant Company (NYSE:TNC) introduces a new street sweeper, the Sentinel(TM), with the advantages of Tennant's acclaimed Centurion(TM) street sweeper, but in a smaller size and price range. Together, the Centurion and Sentinel comprise the StreetMaster Series of outdoor sweepers. "The introduction of the Sentinel underscores Tennant's commitment to the outdoor cleaning market," said Chris Killingstad, Tennant vice president of North America. "By offering similar capabilities in machines of different sizes and prices, customers have more options to help keep their communities safer and healthier." To create the Sentinel, Tennant upgraded its popular 83011 street sweeper with 50 material changes, including a new engine that meets global emission standards. The Sentinel is a four-season sweeper with one-button sweeping, exceptional debris removal, minimized dust and maximized safety. A new adjustable Vario Sweeping Brush(TM) option (controlled by the operator) even permits sweeping around obstacles and on top-of-curb areas typically considered inaccessible by other sweepers. It's the only sweeper with a center-suspended floating main broom that automatically adjusts to road surface variations. Easy to Operate Operators manage sweeper functions from inside the cab, saving time and reducing worker fatigue. The touch of one button selects the sweeping mode. The system self-adjusts to the brush's wear level for optimum performance, maximum brush life, minimal fuel consumption and simplified operation. With a 13-foot turning radius and four-wheel power steering, the Sentinel maneuvers easily around obstacles and in heavy traffic. Designed-in Comfort Sentinel is designed for maximum operator comfort and productivity. Sentinel's roomy cab is heater pressurized with air filtered to three microns for easy breathing. Ergonomic, spring-suspension seating increases operator comfort. A touch-control panel puts all sweeping functions within easy reach and easy operation. A well-insulated, soundproofed cab greatly reduces noise levels. Sentinel's Safety Features Less dust; more view The Sentinel meets PM10 requirements by minimizing dust and the environmental and safety hazards associated with it. A dry filtering system controls dust generated by the main brush, even in sub-freezing temperatures. The system filters dust down to five microns, virtually eliminating the dust cloud typically surrounding operating sweepers, and anything or anyone close to them. In addition, Total View(TM) glass doors dramatically increase the viewing area. Operating Safety The Sentinel sweeper features oil-bath-sealed, multi-disk hydraulic brakes, which minimize the potential for brake failure due to corrosion. The parking brake automatically sets when the engine is shut off. The standard seat switch prevents propelling when the operator is not seated. The sweeper includes a 3.4 cubic yard stainless steel hopper with a five year warranty as standard, capable of being dumped from bumper level to 9'6". The high-capacity vacuum hose attachment is suitable for pick up of wet or dry debris. With the top engine support in the world, the Caterpillar 3054c engine also meets global standards for Tier II emissions and gives off less smoke. An improvement in fuel economy and longer oil change interval than previous sweepers also lower operating costs. An electric lift pump provides quick starts, and a 1000 cca battery assists cold-weather starting. The Sentinel travels at speeds up to 25 mph.
