Step-Down DC/DC Converter has 750 kHz operating frequency.

Press Release Summary:

Packaged in 6-pin, 2 x 3 mm DFN, current mode PWM LT3493 operates from 3.6-36 V input range and features internal 1.4 A power switch. Its low VCESAT (330 mV @ 1 A) internal switch offers efficiencies up to 89%, and device can generate outputs as low as 0.78 V. Internal cycle-by-cycle current limit protects against shorted outputs, while soft-start eliminates input current surge during start up. Device withstands 40 V transients and offers up to 1.2 A output current.

Original Press Release:

750kHz, 1.2A (IOUT) 36V Step-Down DC/DC Converter in 2mm x 3mm DFN Package

MILPITAS, CA - March 13, 2006 - Linear Technology Corporation announces the LT3493, a current mode PWM step-down DC/DC converter with an internal 1.4A power switch, packaged in a tiny 6-pin 2mm x 3mm DFN. Its wide input range of 3.6V to 36V and capability of withstanding 40V transients makes the LT3493 suitable for regulating power from a wide variety of sources, including unregulated wall transformers, 24V industrial supplies and automotive batteries. For automotive applications, it can easily operate with sub-4V inputs which is essential for automotive "cold crank" requirements. Its 750kHz operating frequency allows the use of tiny, low cost inductors and ceramic capacitors, resulting in low, predictable output ripple.

The LT3493's low VCESAT (330mV @1A) internal switch offers efficiencies as high as 89% and the device can generate outputs as low as 0.78V. Internal cycle-by-cycle current limit provides protection against shorted outputs while soft-start eliminates input current surge during start up. The low current (<2uA) shutdown provides easy power management in battery-powered systems.

The LT3493EDCB is available from stock in a thermally enhanced 2mm x 3mm DFN-6 package. A higher temperature grade "I" version, the LT3493IDCB, is also available from stock. Pricing starts at $2.65 each and $3.18 each, respectively, for 1,000-piece quantities.
