AnalogicTech Introduces Two New Ultra-Small, High Efficiency 1MHz Step-Down Converters for Portable Applications

Space-Saving Devices Deliver 400mA or 600mA in Compact 2.0 x 2.1mm SC70JW-8 Package

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 14 /-- Advanced Analogic Technologies Incorporated (AnalogicTech) (NASDAQ:AATI), a developer of power management semiconductors for mobile consumer electronic devices, today introduced two new 1MHz step-down converters. Available in an extremely small 2.0 x 2.1mm SC70JW-8 package, the AAT1123 and AAT1143 supply 600mA and 400mA max output current, respectively, while maintaining a low 25uA no load quiescent current.

"Saving space is a top priority in portable systems, but designers typically have to compromise by using a large package when they use a step-down converter with high output current levels," noted David Brown, Senior Applications Engineering Manager for AnalogicTech. "By offering 400mA and 600mA in a small, space-saving SC70JW-8 package, these new additions to our step-down converter line offer designers new options for reducing device footprint."

Both the AAT1123 and AAT1143 support an input voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V and output as low as 0.6V. The devices are available in either a fixed version with internal feedback or a programmable version with an external feedback resistor. Their 1MHz switching frequency helps minimize external component size while keeping switching losses to a minimum. The AAT1123 also features a fast 100us (typical) turn-on time. Efficiency levels for the AAT1123 and AAT1143 range up to 97 percent and 95 percent, respectively.

These new step-down converters also feature soft start, over-temperature, and current limit protection; 100 percent duty cycle low-dropout operation; and 0.1uA shutdown current.

Price and Availability
The AAT1123 and AAT1143 are rated over the -40 to +85 degree temperature range and samples are available now. The devices sell for $1.09 and $0.92, respectively, in 1,000-piece quantities.
