Triconex Introduces New Turbomachinery Control Solutions

New Steam Turbine Controllers Offer Flexibility and Powerful Configuration Tools

IRVINE, Calif., July 23, 2003 -- Triconex, an operating unit of Invensys plc, today announced the introduction of two new configurable control solutions for steam turbine applications. The 310SV and 320 controllers are the latest evolution in its family of innovative turbomachinery controls.

"Since their inception, Triconex turbomachinery controls have set the standard for innovations and value," said Tracey Sledge, Triconex vice president and general manager. "The addition of these two steam turbine controllers to the product line continues that tradition by offering the power, flexibility and value price that our customers demand."

310SV Features

Designed to meet customer demand for a steam turbine controller with power and flexibility at a value price, the Triconex 310SV provides automatic startup sequencing, speed control and process control for a single-valve steam turbine driving a mechanical load.

The 310SV PC Configurator is a Windows(R)-based software interface that enables the user to easily configure the controller from a PC, trend and record I/O values and states and view alarm and trip history. Users may select from a variety of control options to match their turbine's operational requirements. The controller can be configured to accommodate eight different speed bands, each with independent ramp rates and idle times. It offers flexible, digital I/O points that can be individually configured and Modbus(R) serial data communications.

The PC Configurator also provides offline simulation to test the controller configuration without starting the turbine. Engineers can simulate a turbine startup and confirm configured speed ranges, ramp rates and digital I/O functions without leaving their office environment. Simulate Mode also can be used as an effective tool to train technicians and operators.

320 Features

The Triconex 320 controller provides automatic startup sequencing, speed control and process control for a one-valve or two-valve steam turbine driving a generator or mechanical load. It offers users flexible digital and analog I/O configuration and Modbus serial data communications.

"We've taken the powerful, proven Triconex two-valve turbine control algorithms and put them in a very flexible and affordable package," said Sledge. "Users can easily configure the 320 for a complicated steam turbine application in minutes, saving valuable time."

In addition to all of the capabilities that the 310SV provides, the 320 controller also delivers inlet/extraction/exhaust pressure control, process and megawatt control and automatic generator synchronization. Its Windows-based software interface allows users to easily configure the controller from a PC, trend and record I/O values and states, as well as view alarm and trip history.
