Split Ring Encoder Solves Sensing Problems in Limited Access Applications

Lebanon, N.H. March 15, 2004. A major diesel engine manufacturer is using a split ring magnetic encoder that mounts directly on the cam shaft and operates in hot engine oil. The magnetic encoder produces feedback data that permits the engine manufacturer to measure the torsional twist of the cam shaft, improve cam control and lower pollution levels.

According to the encoder manufacturer, Admotec Inc., Lebanon, N.H. (www.admotec.com) split ring magnetic encoders are custom designed for specific applications and are based on their standard K and EK Series magnetic encoders. They are available for shaft sizes from 1/2" to 10", and operate at speeds up to 4000 rpm with resolution up to 4500 cpr in oil, dust, and excessive moisture.

Although initially designed for automotive use, the split ring magnetic encoders provide a unique solution for limited access or captive shaft applications in all industries.

Admotec develops and produces precision magnetic encoders and solid rotor resolvers that provide high performance for the demanding conditions of aerospace, automotive, nuclear, heavy mill duty and general industrial applications. With offices in Lebanon, New Hampshire, and Zurich, Switzerland, Admotec is well-positioned to meet the motion and position sensing needs of original equipment manufacturers around the world.
