SKF® Introduces Series of Sealed Spindle Bearings Designed for High-Speed Applications
A new series of SKF® sealed precision angular contact ball bearings from SKF Machine Tool Precision Technologies (Bethlehem, PA) is ideal for woodworking spindles, metal-cutting spindles, and other spindle applications requiring high-speed bearing performance and optimized running accuracy. Their seals help to extend service life by protecting against premature tool failure due to infiltration by contaminants or loss of lubricant.
The new SKF high-speed sealed spindle bearings (Series CB/FB/DB) feature smaller-diameter balls in greater numbers compared with standard spindle-bearing designs. The smaller balls provide enhanced running accuracy, in part, by reducing centrifugal forces and contact pressure between balls and raceway. Rotational speeds up to 2.1M ndm can be achieved.
These bearings are available with contact angles of 18 degrees or 25 degrees as standard (15 degrees can be supplied). Bearings with the greater contact angle are typically specified for those applications where high axial stiffness and high axial load capability are required.
