Original Press Release:

Specified Technologies, Inc. Unveils the First UL® Certified System for Protecting Under Slab Curtain Wall Connections, the SpecSeal® CP100 Connection Protection

Specified Technologies, Inc. (STI), an innovative leader in the firestop industry and experts in curtain wall perimeter fire barrier systems, has introduced a revolutionary new system to protect under slab anchors or connection points with the SpecSeal® CP100 Connection Protection system. The development of the SpecSeal® CP100 Connection Protection system represents another industry first for STI and helps support the creation of a new UL® category to more clearly define what constitutes an acceptable level of protection for critical curtain wall connections.

SpecSeal® CP100 Connection Protection is the first system within this new category and the only UL® tested and certified system available for protecting exposed connections. Installing within minutes, the SpecSeal® CP100 Connection Protection system's patented molded design encapsulates connections to provide up to a two-hour fire rating.

"Unprotected curtain wall connections located beneath floor slabs are vulnerable to direct fire exposure, which can compromise integrity," said James P. Stahl, Jr., CFPS, CDT, Vice President & General Manager, Engineering and Emerging Businesses, STI. "The SpecSeal® CP100 Connection Protection system delivers visual protection with compliance you can see, eliminating application and inspection guesswork, which ensures measurable performance and a more reliable outcome."

Because of STI's driving force in the innovation of curtain wall perimeter fire containment systems, UL® recently established a new category, the XHDI Category, to include systems such as the SpecSeal® CP100 Connection Protection, "Accessories for Perimeter Fire Containment."

"The development of a test protocol and the establishment of this new UL® category represent a tremendous leap forward in specifically defining how to safely and consistently fire protect under slab connections," continues Stahl.
