Acoustiblok®: A Breakthrough in Sound Proofing
TAMPA, Fla., May 30 - Acoustiblok(R), a revolutionary sound proofing product, is now available to dramatically reduce sound transmissions in private homes and condominiums, hotels, hospitals and office buildings. While other manufacturers of sound proofing material attempt to stop or absorb sound, Acoustiblok has resolved the problem in a vastly different way: through a unique thermodynamic process, Acoustiblok is engineered to transform sound energy into undetectable trace elements of heat.
Acoustiblok is made of a 1/8 inch thick proprietary viscoelastic polymer material with a high density mineral content, heavy yet extremely flexible. As sound waves cause the Acoustiblok material to flex, internal friction occurs (isothermal/adiabatic) and the acoustical energy is dissipated into undetectable trace amounts of heat. A one 1/8 inch layer of Acoustiblok in a standard wall will result in more sound reduction than 12 inches of poured concrete. (Certified lab results are available). One layer of Acoustiblok can reduce sound transmission by as much as 30 decibels.
Environmentally friendly, Acoustiblok contains no lead or asbestos, is UV resistant and impervious to water and mold; it is UL fire rated and approved for virtually all wall, floor and ceiling installations. Easily cut with a utility knife, Acoustiblok requires no special tools or preparation; it can be installed anytime before drywall or floorcovering. Acoustiblok is typically applied as part of layered wall, ceiling or floor construction. It is usually stapled to wood studs, or screwed to metal studs, prior to hanging the drywall.
Acoustiblok is a leader in research and development in sound proofing and is currently working with NASA engineers regarding noise reduction relating to floor-to-floor noise transmission in high rises.
Acoustiblok backs its claims with hard science and certified independent laboratory test results. The acoustical laboratory at Architectural Testing, Inc., York, Penn., recorded an astounding STC (Sound Transmission Class) of 85 for a concrete block and metal stud wall with Acoustiblok, a noise reduction well in excess of 99% to human hearing. "In all the years of testing, we have never tested anything that reduced sound to that degree," stated Kurt Golden, test administrator at Architectural Testing. For applications where extreme high performance sound isolation is a requirement, this wall design configuration is the most practical and economical option available.
