New 532 nm Millennia® Laser Cuts Cost for CW applications
Spectra-Physics (Mountain View, CA) has announced the release of a new 5 watt Millennia® all solid state laser based on a single pump diode. This next generation CW green (532 nm) laser combines all the benefits of earlier Millennia products with several innovations designed to lower overall cost of ownership.
In particular, this new laser utilizes only one pump diode, compared to the two pump diodes used in comparable products. Since the pump diode is the only consumable in an all solid state laser, this design feature directly and significantly reduces the long term cost of ownership. Furthermore, the new Spectra-Physics ProLite(TM) series pump diodes used in the Millennia now set the industry standard in device lifetime - typically over
10,000 hours at the rated power. This long lifetime further minimizes overall operating costs.
The Millennia power supply has also been re-engineered and the all solid state design utilizes a thermoelectric cooler for thermal management of the pump diode. The result is a compact, rack-mountable power supply that consumes less electricity and requires less valuable space.
This Millennia will be introduced at the Photonics West Conference and Trade Show (San Jose, January, 2002). Target applications include laser pumping, materials processing, semiconductor wafer inspection, and scientific research.
