Solid-Polymer Bearings are optimized for dry operation.

Press Release Summary:

Injection-molded EP72(TM) series plain bearings and thrust washers provide wear-resistance, low friction, and creep-resistance over temperatures up to 500°F. Made of polyamide-imide resin with solid lubricants, they exhibit dimensional stability, low thermal expansion, and thermal conductivity. Chemically resistant products are available in cylindrical and flanged bushings, as well as thrust washers in various dimensions and shapes.

Original Press Release:

High-Performance Solid-Polymer Bearings from Glacier Garlock

Thorofare, N.J., October 31, 2003 - Glacier Garlock Bearings (GGB) now offers its EP72(TM) series of injection molded, solid-polymer plain bearings and thrust washers that provide excellent wear resistance and low friction over a wide range of operating conditions. Made of a polyamide-imide resin with the addition of solid lubricants, the new bearings exhibit excellent dimensional stability, low coefficient of friction, high compressive strength and creep resistance, low thermal expansion and good thermal conductivity. Because wear performance is uniform throughout, allowable wear is limited only by bearing wall thickness and mechanical constraints of the application.

EP72(TM) is a high-performance bearing material with high levels of lubricity and wear resistance in dry applications, such as electric motors, valves, transmissions, clutches, pumps and others. Its inherent lubricity and long-term stability at temperatures up to 500o F (260o C) enable operation in environments where ordinary greases cannot survive. Moreover, the bearings can be used under conditions where the effectiveness of greases may be limited due to contamination, thus eliminating the need for costly sealing elements. Although optimized for dry operation, the excellent chemical resistance of EP72(TM) enables it to be used in a wide range of fluid environments.

The new material provides a cost-effective alternative to conventional compression molded or machined polyimides, outperforming the former and comparing favorably with the latter in thrust washer wear tests.

EP72(TM) is available in cylindrical and flanged bushings, as well as thrust washers in special dimensions and shapes. Because the material is injection moldable, it affords the freedom to design a wide range of bearing forms and functions.
