Solar Atmospheres at IMTS Show

Solar Atmospheres, with plants in Eastern and Western PA, will offer two new and unique heat treating capabilities at IMTS 2006 in Chicago. Located at booth B-6423, Solar is introducing the largest load capacity vacuum heat treating in the world. Another unique and new service offer is the insitu vacuum carburizing technology to case harden and improve part wear life.

Outstanding furnace load capacity is now available from Solar's two 24 foot vacuum furnaces at its plant in Western PA. The two bar quenching furnaces each have a patented load delivery system and capacity of 50,000 lbs. Solar's processing procedures use microprocessors linked to programmable logic controllers that enable regulated temperature ramp up as well as precision controlled rapid quenching. This results in attaining customer metallurgical specifications while minimizing distortion.

Machined parts up to 17 feet long have been successfully processed. Solar has operated one 24 foot furnace 24 / 7 for the past five years, but has recently added a second furnace at its Western PA facility enabling this unique 100,000 lb processing capability.

A second unique resource offering is the culmination of two years of intense processing research and engineering development that have lead to the production of Solar Manufacturing's insitu gas quenching vacuum carburizing furnace. Now operating at Solar Atmospheres Eastern PA facility, the furnace and process have successfully carburized thousands of parts in its six foot chamber. Vacuum carburizing services are offered with the option of purchasing a furnace built by Solar Manufacturing.
