Teamprise Releases Remote Accelerator for Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server

Version control proxy provides office speeds for remote developers.

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 27 - Microsoft PDC 2008 - Teamprise today announced the release of Teamprise Remote Accelerator, the latest addition to their line of products built for Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server. Teamprise Remote Accelerator is a tool designed specifically to improve download speeds for remote developers working over low-bandwidth connections by fetching files dynamically as they are changed in the source repository and caching them on the remote developer's own computer for fast access.

The Teamprise Remote Accelerator provides a considerable improvement in speed compared to connecting directly to Team Foundation Server without a version control proxy. Benchmarks reported over 400% speed improvement over a direct connection to the server. Such dramatic speed improvements are available thanks to the innovative "cache seeding" available in Teamprise Remote Accelerator, where Team Foundation Server resources are downloaded automatically to the client and cached immediately. New resources are then available immediately to the client.

Announcing the release, Edward Thomson, project lead for Teamprise Remote Accelerator, said, "We first developed the Remote Accelerator for internal use, as Teamprise has many employees who work outside of our headquarters. After seeing the productivity gains, we realized that this would be very useful for other developers who use Team System remotely."

Thomson continued, "Traditional version control proxies are aimed at workgroups, where the first person to download a file takes a performance hit while the proxy fetches it from the server. Teamprise Remote Accelerator, however, is designed with the single user in mind: by downloading data from the server as it changes, the proxy always contains up-to-date information even before the client requests it."

"I am excited about this product, which adds definite value to the TFS environment for remote teams, or users like myself who access the TFS server via a broadband network while on the move," commented Willy-Peter Schaub, a Team System MVP. "It performs this personalized caching tremendously."

Teamprise Remote Accelerator is compatible with Visual Studio Team Editions and Teamprise clients. It retails for $99 per user and can be purchased directly from the company's online store. More information can be found on the Teamprise website, http://www.teamprise.com/products/accelerator/.

Also at the conference on Monday, Teamprise was giving demonstrations of the latest features being added to their Teamprise Client Suite, a suite of tools providing cross-platform and Java development teams with full access to Team Foundation Server from within their native environments, such as the Eclipse IDE. The latest features include integration with the Mylyn task based framework of Eclipse, publishing JUnit test results into Team Foundation for complete Java build metrics, and interoperability with Visual Studio 2010 Team Foundation Server.
